Any plans for a cool white version? I want to build an illuminated desk magnifier with the light in a ring around the lens; these are great and just the right size. But I want the light temperature selectable by PWMming between a warm and a cool white set.

We will never appreciate how "LEDs" have changed our world. It's used everywhere today. As to the flickering "NEON" signs we see in old movie scenes and not to mention Los Angeles main street at night in the 70s. I will use the Noods to form the shape of my house number so it can be seen in the dark as one example.

What’s really not appreciated is the invention of InGaN blue LEDs. All white LEDs are actually Blue LEDs that are under a layer of various phosphors which luminesces different colors , mostly whites depending on how which phosphor is used and what ratio they combined.

Do these guys need resistors? I had a sample once that just burned when I connected it to a 3.7v Li-ion battery
@bannerman100
@bannerman100 4 ай бұрын
Yes, you need a resistor (or a very well controlled supply voltage). LED devices need to be current controlled. If the LED needs 3V at 50mA, then to power it from a Li-Ion battery (which is 4.2V when fullly charged), then the resistor must drop 4.2V minus 3V, which is 1.2V. R = V / I, 1.2 / 0.05 which is 24 ohms. (For convenience, you can use a common 22 ohm resistor as it's close enough.) I recommend that you check out the many free basic electronics online courses.

Absolutely ideal, as they will give uniform brightness all the way along. You might want to put in 3 or 4 strips to get enough brightness. And make sure they are all angled outwards around a central rod, and covered with a clear or translucent tube for protection.

these are cool! can you power the flexible ones with a coin cell battery by attaching the connectors to the coin cell?
@bannerman100
@bannerman100 4 ай бұрын
Probably, but coin and button batteries have very little capacity, so they will die quickly. The smallest practical battery would be a 10440 rechargeable Li-Ion cell, with a resistor to limit the current.

I love these! But know the resister is more than a SHOULD, without it they just burn up. In my tests 50mA is really pushing it, not going to last long. More like 40 nor 45mA and they still look about the same brightness. Great Product!!!!!

would they burn if directly connected to a 3v button battery? like a c2032? I connect them to leds and led string lights with no problem but not tried these filament things
@bannerman100
@bannerman100 4 ай бұрын
@@subspaceanomaly 3V is ok for regular white and blue LEDs (usually 3.3V max), but red, orange, green & yellow LEDs take about 2V, so use a resistor. But many LED keyring torches often don't have a resistor because the tiny batteries can ony supply a tiny current (and won't last long anyway.)

From a 12V supply, if its a 3V, 50mA strip, you must drop 9V. So 9V / 50mA = 180 ohms in series with the strip.
