The Homeworld soundtrack as a whole was and still is one of the most impressive collections of music in video game history. It complemented the most somber moments just as well as it did the most intense. Tears of Karan (Agnus Dei/Adagio for Strings) highlighted two poignant moments early in the game - mirroring the triumph of the launch of the Mothership and the return to the destruction of Kharak. It was moving and powerful and, at least for me, was something that carried with me in the rest of the game. I'm very happy Paul Ruskay is back to try and recapture that magic. I've been excited about Homeworld 3 from the second it was revealed and most of what I've seen so far has only reinforced that feeling.

Homeworld music was always top notch. "Adagio for strings" really hit the spot with first Homeworld, it had so much emotional load to the setting that it literally brought tears into your eyes... Another great sound piece of music was Homeworld Cataclysm main menu theme - it was fitting so well in that space opera setting, so please: Don't forget about Homeworld Cataclysm, let the miners who become warriors be part of what is going to come...

I feel like the Deserts of Kharak soundtrack is outstanding as well. It brings new themes and motifs for the factions in that game and then ties the soundtrack back together with HW1 in the very last cutscene. It worked extremely well for the game and I still listen to it regularly.

yes these are sounds mixing atmospheres from the middle east and "western" (plus synths). But we also find music from the first Homeworld (at the very beginning of the mission "tomb of the ancients", we have a short piece in the opening cinematic, of "Bridge of sighs", and at the end in the end cinematic the mission music 1.

Adagio For Strings is so amazing that I've made a tattoo about it!
@martinvonposen54672 жыл бұрын
I remember back in 1999 when I heard Adagio for Strings during opening scene. As a 12 years old kid I was speechless and had a massive goosebumps hearing it for the first time with all the radio transmission and systems check during opening scene. Plus the Imperial Battle music and Swarmer Battle music during Garden in Kadesh. To this day I listen to it and use it when I need to get into a mood when I write my sf and fantasy novels with some fighting scenes involved. I loved how Paul Ruskay combined sytnhs with this eastern music style, especially the Armenian duduk flute. No one tried this before and this is just brilliant combination. This is also how I found how beautiful the armenian music is with duduk flute. I can't wait to play the next true successor of Homeworld 1 and 2 after 23 years!!! During that time I got married, have my own kids and I hope that someday I will show them this beautiful gem of Homeworld universe. What can I say? My deepest thanks!

@saladinbob2 жыл бұрын
I love the way the original actress says Kharak is burning to the backdrop of this music, she played it absolutely perfectly. Another actor might have descended into an emotional outburst but she played it as if Karan was struggling to process what she was seeing, a stunned disbelief that such a thing could happen, which added a layer of realism to the scene, and, along with the music, a layer of emotion. It's one of the best scenes in gaming history.

it's extremely impressive that they were able to take an RTS game about space ship fleet battles and somehow give it some of the most serious emotional power i've ever enjoyed in a videogame. RTS is not usually a genre that lends itself to that kind of storytelling, and i attribute a large share of homeworlds success in this regard to the sound design, music, and voice acting. it is a masterclass. But paul is absolutely correct when he lays out what a huge task he has ahead of him. everyone involved has a lot to live up to. the fans have been waiting for an agonizingly long time for homeworld 3, and we have been waiting for a VERY specific experience. they could make an objectively near perfect game, but if it doesn't trigger those same emotions then it's not going to deliver the authenticity that we are demanding. good luck, team. i am extremely excited for this.

Very few games in the history of the games have such original music work that inspires you to play, that stays in your body for very long time and is so well connected with whole experience of the games. I used to listen the homeworld music long after I stopped playing the game. Every time I played something I was going back to homeworld universe in my mind, in just a few seconds, and I felt everything without even looking at the game. I am happy to se they recognized the importance of music on this level, you can not find easy this kind of dedication in any kind of media. Can't wait to play it again. Cheers!

It's really great when a game studio puts so much effort into a game, not just focusing on profit like many studios out there that end up ruining a saga. You guys are to be congratulated because clearly you don't think that way and want to preserve an entire story worthy of what this saga represents, along with its legacy of emotions. For me, Homeworld is exactly that: more than an excellent game, it's an engaging cinematic experience, with a great story and excellent soundtrack. The combination of these elements has kept it alive until today, largely because it was taken seriously by the developers. Congratulations! Thank you for providing this to us.

I was born the same year the 1st Homeworld was released, it wouldn't be until it's 10th Anniversary that Dad sat me down and told me "here kitten, play this...but more important, let the music spill over you and fill your soul" I thought he'd lost his mind that day, however, once I started playing it and heard Adagio [Agnus Dei] come pouring out of his surround speakers... I gave witness to a fundamental change in my thoughts, my perception of my parents [they're both musicians] and mostly how it effected me in such a positive way. Seeing this video has not only made me cry tears of joy from having the memories of that specific moment when flying back to see Kharak burning, but also the unabated, fully focused, hope and anticipation for the next chapter in this saga to be released. ❤️💕❤️❤️💕💕 To all of you working so hard on the Homeworld 3 Project!

If "Adagio" is the signature of Homeworld and particularly the 1, its soundtrack is more diverse: For the 1 each camp has a theme and a style (Taidanis, Kushan, Bentusi, the crazy people of Kadesh, the Pirates). The 2 brings a clean, dominant style The whole is played with synths and violins making it sound like Sitar sounds giving a slightly Hindu atmosphere. There are some exceptions such as bentusis (great music), Karos etc .... . This brings out the immensity of the galaxy and its destiny linked to the three nuclei as well as to the secrets of the progenitors.Even the sounds during the phases of battles are filled with sounds of synths + violins putting a unique and lively atmosphere, but often with a lower octave when you see or speak of Vaygrs. One of the highlights being the background music when the planet-destroying ships come out of hyper space (last mission). You can feel the power and the tragedy coming. For me Hwld2 has one of the best soundtracks, and something similar in 3 seems to be brewing with variations. I tremble with impatience. Sorry Paul for all the pressure from our fan expectations.

Homeworld has always been a very unique franchise in terms of its music and the ambience it generates. Most sci-fi keeps to its origin area in terms of the world. Western is western sci-fi, asian is asian sci-fi and this is kept true in said franchises in terms of music and ambience. However Homeworld has always had a distinct and emblematic middle-eastern tone to it, that mixes and contrasts with the western style sci-fi and yet it feels extremely appropriate, not only through the story, but as it refers to the idea of space. The Hiigarans/Kushan are a people who lost all that they had been and had to reinvent themselves in a desert world. This inevitably must have influenced their music and their ideas and yet they remained in many ways also very western in terms of their architecture and ideologies. Taken to space, space itself is a desert environment and this desert thematic that they bring, encapsulates so much of the Homeworld franchise, in its mysteries and themes and makes this universe extremely unique. I think that without this incredible music that accompanied this game, coupled with the passion of the world building encapsulate in that gigantic first technical manual of Homeowrld 1, this game would not be the jewel that it is. For me, these 2 aspects built the world far beyond what the game did and every time I think of middle eastern music, I am transported to these grand space battles in this wonderful universe.
