The persimmons that you have can just be eaten like that skin and all or you can peel the skin off (some ppl do because there are time when the skin is too hard or some ppl have texture issues) it goes great in a toss salad 🥗 you can also make jam with it too.. I hope you like it!!

I live near Harrisburg, so it’s so cool to see a bigger KZbinr like you live so close🫶🏻 I actually just went to a class at Wildwood in Harrisburg to learn about different trees in the area that develop fruits that can be eaten and learned about different recipes and what not. We tried Persimmon ice cream, it was a little too sweet for my taste, but you can make pudding, jam, etc with them

I always get excited when you go to whispering pines and L&L. Thanks to you we shop at both locations too. That grass fed butter is so good. I bought some at the beginning of November from WP. I wanted to bring a case home so badly. Unfortunately we live 6 hours away so I can only bring so much cold stuff home. Great haul. Merry Christmas to you and your family

I love Whispering Pines, wangers, and L and L. Used to live in Freeburg and Selinsgrove. Have family in the Mifflinburg area I Miss those shopping days. Here in NH, there's not much discount bulk shopping.

I had to google these stores cuz were in central PA too! They’re closer to 2 hrs from us but I might have to road trip there someday cuz some of the discount & bulk places near us do not have this good of pricing!

Great haul! I’m going to have to explore some bulk stores about an hour away in Amish country. You may be interested in a hack someone told me about how to store mushrooms to keep them longer. When you get them home from the store take your mushrooms out of their packaging and place them in a mason jar and put a lid and ring on them to store them in the refrigerator. They last at least 2-3 weeks for me. This works great!

I also live in an apartment so I have only so much space for storage. I have made 2 pantries. One that was a coat closet which I made into a pantry. The other one is in the basement. I share the basement with another apartment. I'm sure that I have enough food on hand for at least 6 months. I have 2 freezers. One is a 21 cubic foot upright freezer and the other is a 5.5 cubic chest freezer. They are both in the basement. I also have the freezer on the top of my refrigerator. All 3 of them are full. I replenish what I eat each month. Since it's winter and really cold here now, I'm making more meals like spaghetti, chili, goulash, my homemade hamburger helper, and meals like that which stretch pretty far. I do use my seal-a-meal to freeze some of the leftovers from those meals.

The persimmons are very good but must be very ripe to eat or they are very sour, you can also cut the seeds open and perdict the weather in your area ic they come from your area, if when you cut the seeds open you will either see a knife, fork, or spoon, the knife predicts lots of ice, spoon or shovel is lots of snow , and fork is not really bad weather, its from farmer alamac and kinda fun to see what you get lol

I wish we had a store like that. We do have Sam's Club but it's just over a hour away. I live in North Central Iowa. This is the time of year that I don't travel far from home. I'm 71 years old and live alone. I do try to buy in bulk at Walmart when I can, especially meats. I have a seal-a-meal that I break everything down to the size that I'm going to use and repackage it with my seal-a-meal. I do save money that way. I also try to buy pasta in bigger packages and do the same thing to them.

With the persimmons, it depends on whether you got an astringent or non-astringent variety. The non-astringent varieties can be eaten while they are still firm. Some people eat the skin but I prefer to peel mine with a vegetable peeler. Astringent varieties will leave you with a puckering, dry, rough feeling in your mouth if they are not completely ripe as in the skin has turned translucent and the fruit is completely soft. I believe yours are non-astringent. They should have a nice sweet and crunchy flavor to them. The softer they get, the sweeter they will be but then you lose the crunchiness.

When i eat persimmons i peel of a thin layer with a knife and cut the rest in cubes and just eat them. I don't do anything special with them. My aunt uses them on top of Pavlova. ( a type of cake)
