I remember when "Paul's Boutique" dropped in 1989, the pop fans HATED IT! I thought that album was great and still think it's their best. An album like that could never be made today. The closest I have seen are Beck's "Odelay" -which, like "Paul's Boutique", was produced by the Dust Brothers - and "Since I Left You" by The Avalanches.

Everyone talks about Licensed to Ill and Paul’s Boutique (rightfully so) but imo Check Your Head and Ill Communication are the Beasties best. Massively influential to a lot of alternative hip hop in the 90s and 00s
