Even if he wasn't nice about it he was being real, and people with serious problems (weight, drugs, alcohol) need real talk sometimes. My aunt would get super defensive when you said anything about her drinking, in the end it made everyone afraid to tell her to stop since it upset her and so she died a painful, miserable, death in her 50s.

If you want to broach a sensitive topic, first of all, you do it away from the mics and in private. Secondly, you need to be delicate but firm with your concerns.
