What a fantastic interview by Gilly. Very perceptive and passionate. The fact that Justin's old team mates are so loyally sticking up for him says so much about his character. He was so popular as a player due to his commitment and dedication to the team. What on earth is going on in the Australiam team that such a successful player and coach is treated with so little respect.

Sadly the very same thing happened with Anil Kumble in the Indian team - player power helped to oust him too as the Indian coach! Just like Langer, he too is a very passionate & blunt character but it seems players these days rather have a 'doormat coach' who'll mollycoddle & pamper their inflated egos instead - even when things are not going well for the team.

Now with Rahul Dravid as coach, he clearly is a totally different character to Kumble & not sure he is capable of 'kicking a few backsides' in the dressing room when necessary. He did well managing the U19 side but then players at that level would look up to him with the utmost respect & quietly listen to every word he says. However when it comes to dealing with the top stars at senior level with their big egos, it is obviously a completely different scenario! When the team are not doing that well & were humiliated in SA recently due to a number of their star players like Kohli being in very poor form these past two years, will the more reserved style of Dravid's management [that reflects his own personal character] be able to turn around the form of these struggling players & will they really listen to him?

Player power has gone crazy these days, and in this particular instance I think this will come back to bite CA in the backside. What happens when the new coach comes in and the team needs a verbal lashing to get them going? Sometimes even at the highest levels home truths are needed, will the new coach do that now after seeing what happened to Langer? You can picture it now they are doing fitness drills and the senior players are going to go nah don't want to do those extra sprints today. Langer might be intense but the coach is meant to push players beyond what they think they are capable of, that's their job. The new coach is going to be coming in with one hand already tied behind his back. More concerning for CA is that there are clearly players leaking stuff to the press in order to get Langer removed, so putting their own wants ahead of the stability of CA which is really bad news.

Could be a very pivotal point in Australian cricket again where this time no one with a spine will want to touch Aussie cricket and we'll end up with Mr Nice guy coach for the players and return poor results like with ex England cricket coach Chris Silverwood. The Independent in the UK has written an article with the headline "England set to turn to Alec Stewart’s firm hand after the failure of Chris Silverwood’s soft touch". I fear it is Australia losing 4 or 5 nil next time. Unfortunately you have not completed any of the above; but rather made excuses for a group of elite, international sportsmen who are more worried about their desire ‘to be heard’ than they are about intensifying their efforts toward the job that they earn a fortune to both promote and stay successful at. Political Correctness has brought down the on field performances of many an elite athlete around the world... and these players are falling into the same ‘woke’ trap. Hopefully, for your sake, you do not do the same... but your comment suggests. People whom make excuses for other’s bad behaviour are a part of the problem of why sports are becoming less relevant to a society and culture that was built on sport.

These sports stars have the backing of the media in general and feel that they are above reproach in many instances. The future will deliver the results… Just look at the off field behaviour/controversy of many highly paid footballers, swimmers… etc. As I said, if the culture around these sports stars, whom are diplomatic in public, yet back stabbers in private… were different… I would have agreed with your middle ground approach to the situation. Nobody is seeing the bigger picture. However you think CA handled the matter (I think poorly) JL was never the best long term option for Australia. I don't know how exactly it has worked in England or elsewhere, but Australian test teams have never warmed to authoritative coaches. We didn't even have a team coach until the 80s. When Tubby fronted the press for the first time as the captain he more or less told Bob Simpson where to go. The players white anted the micromanager Mickey Arthur some time ago as well. Exceptional circumstances called for an exceptional style of coach. The team was in crisis, the culture was a putrid imitation of what it should've been, and the players needed reminding of what our values are. JL came in and did that, but he's been full of himself and has tried to reinvent what a standard test coach is. Being a test coach isn't about making Sir Alex Ferguson proud, it's about being head of support for the cricketers. If he goes to England he will improve them because they need a good kick up the arse as well, but mark my words his methods will begin to wear thin on them.

And if it wasn't for A.B and Bob Simpson, we might not have had such a dominant period as we did through the 90s and early 2000s. They built the platform and everyone else reaped the benefits.

@@KeyboardWarrior01 you're probably right, but we probably wouldn't have had the same dominance if Simpson was still around being a pest for everyone.

Lost the dressing room time to move on, not the first and won't be the last. Time for ex players to stop trying to burn the house down just so they can support they're mate.

@@shiraz1736 true but it was the win at all cost mentality from Lehman. I think since Pat has had the Captaincy they've played the game in the right spirit, moving even further away from the old school win at all costs. Move on and they will be judged by their performances

@@brandon197sf Hmm its messy and there all coming across as juveniles. The fact that Smith ended up as a stand in captain for one of the test's says it all. Warner and Smith should be batting and shutting up.

I think it was time for JL to go. Too much noise around it. Also, for all those people who talk about Australia having won and JL turning around the team etc - well that only happened after Smith and Warner came back!! also winning is not everything - wasnt that the lesson we learnt from the whole sandpapergate - why do people talk about the win in last two series as reason to keep him - that should not be the be all and end all. Luckily his intensity and aggressiveness did not rub off on the team who played more within spirit of the game. Last thing we want is his aggressiveness and intensity to lead to players taking the other side to task. Also, I won't forgot this about JL - he took the same amount of "childish" behaviour to player relations it seems: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6PQYp-LnLV1mZI
