Adam Lambert placed second on "American Idol" about 14 years ago. Now, he's conquered a category all his own. A big part of that journey? His queerness.
"I like not being like everybody else. I like finding my individuality," Lambert says over Zoom in April. His effervescent and electric tone soars across the screen: "Queerness in my career has given me a certain amount of purpose and drive, to prove that queer people are valid and can be successful and can connect and deserve every opportunity that our straight friends get."
Since "Idol," the singer, 41, has guest starred on "Glee," toured with Queen, started a LGBTQ nonprofit called the Feel Something Foundation, had his feature film debut in "Fairyland" and won a Creative Coalition award for his work elevating queer visibility in independent cinema. (That's all?!)

At the time Adam was on the music scene the gay artists that were out, most came out after being popular in the charts, like Elton John, George Michael. But even more recently, Sam smith, publicly came out only after charting with several hits. Adam on the other hand spoke out being proud of being gay at the very start of his music career. That’s a big difference and he paid a big price for it.

Hi Carole, how could you not realize how or why ppl would criticize Adam and especially back 10+ years ago. But it’s still going on today . I know you mean well, but the ostrich perspective about the world and ppls attitudes about gay ppl will not change things. It’s important to realize that hate is not rational or objective. It’s visceral and based on fear and bigotry. I agree he’s a very nice person, it’s amazing he’s been so positive over all these years and especially in the post idol days with all the stupid interview questions about guyliner and make up yet he kept a smile on, and stayed positive. I do admire his character and I think he’s an amazing singer and performer. His music kept my sprits up during COVID isolation. 😁

I agree, but I think it would be great if he would pick out a bunch of songs from his first 3 albums and RE do them ( or not) like he has done with the songs on high drama. He needs to release a bunch of his earlier catalog so people get to hear them, since they did not give them a chance during the first goaround. He can call it “Adam covering Adam” or “Adam’s choice songs 2.0”

@@sharonelliott2366 let’s start a push for it amongst his fan base. I think his songs & sound were ahead of the times. I didn’t include velvet because that had a different sound, although it would be good to have a RE-release. Brian May has been in the last few years redoing and releasing his solo music from 40 yrs ago, why not Adam.

If it matters …. To me it really doesn’t. He’s so proud of of who he is , and he loves Oliver … I just wish people could just see him as a decent human being.
