Irina, I meant to ask why the decision was made to have an Asian-sounding song on the album. I know "how" it is made to sound Asian. The Asian scale is different from the European, by only containing 5 notes instead of 7.

My interpretation of this song is that it talks about being to hard on ONEself. I think that he is talking to his own critical inner voice (not another person). It was the title "Shame" that first made me think of this. At least the lyrics are more interesting to me this way.
@AdinaIspas6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, that too. He's always talking to himself, right? But it's also possible that he places importance on this other person and therefore internalizes that person's opinion of him. Or "The Public" as he said. The Public goes back to this one person.

This song is not about sex as sex goes; it's about how he places importance on this person who doesn't get him, because this person always comes from the viewpoint he's committed some crime. So everything he speaks comes across as "guilty" to this person (who can also represent "the public"). Now he's frustrated as he's internalized the "shame", when it's the other person who's done something wrong ("broken the toys" - one toy being him, possibly). The fact that he's a top sexually makes no difference, as there's no way to get with that person in that way. But there is a way to communicate this in a song. In the song, he uses some allusions to sex ("pain I earned" and blah) only to bring the matter back to his real self - as opposed to what the other person thinks. When the audience smiles at the play on words, the tension is diffused, so his point gets across. Secondly, being a top sexually doesn't mean being a top emotionally. According to his interviews, Adam always fostered strong feelings for guys who didn't feel the same about him (i.e. fanboy personality). So who's on top there? The idea is that such reversals are common when searching for love and that one should love oneself first because otherwise one ends up playing the evil (guilty) part. In fact, in mythology tops are called "dark" and bottoms are "light", imagine that... we still think that the Light Heroes have to defeat (be on top) the Dark. Crazy or what? Thirdly: *"My interpretation of this song is that it talks about being too hard on ONEself. I think that he is talking to his own critical inner voice (not another person). It was the title "Shame" that first made me think of this. At least the lyrics are more interesting to me this way."* (another comment on this video). Yeah, the inner talk! Totally. How "shame" sounds in one's head, if one listens. I just wrote of the other person, because of what I found through dreams (they began in 2005 around the time when Adam was in Europe), but they did include the inner talk equally. So he's not "versatile" (if that is what you mean by "verse"?) - it's just that every personality is made of two opposing forces always in battle; and when this battle is finally over and peace is made, that's the only time when the individual shines through. The "search & destroy" part thinks "it has to be this way", it has to protect the tender part and has to build a wall. But it just ends up hurting that tender part. The term "Search & Destroy" is very specific, refers to a Cyborg or Android, a human Robot (being programmed). Adam is working to subvert the program defending itself. Lastly - there is no "Gay Soul" versus "Non Gay Soul". It is all just Soul. That is why gay people exist. Because there is Soul. So when you look at a song's meanings, it's not this super-secret society formed of "gay souls" to whom a song means something completely different than to us. Songs are still about mind, about emotions, feelings, thoughts in one's head. Just because you know you are gay, doesn't switch on a total and complete understanding of life, love & relationships. Though of course it's important.

He's talking about a narcissistic partner that projects his shame onto him. They act exatyl this way because they cannot bare the shame they feel about themselves deep down. Shame is the rot of narcissism. hard to believe I know, if its an overt narcissist. Adam also tells that hes normal and is reacting normaly to this projection by reacting and saying "No, I dont deserve this" He seems to be an empath.

Can somebody tell me what the lyrics are about? I don't really understand the story
@ethanmarston17769 жыл бұрын
Stefan Alien its not coz the song is about a relationship where the other is being way too hard on the singer
@littlemonsterdelrey9 жыл бұрын
now i should feel weird and awkward.
@AdinaIspas9 жыл бұрын
Stefan Alien Lol, no you can't really take it SO literally - that's not the way he writes/sings lyrics (he never objectifies body parts, and it's all about emotions and thoughts/thinking) - you have to look at how the English language works. In this case "hard" has the meaning "a person without empathy", "difficult", someone who is quick to point out every wrong thing you do, and exaggerate the bad parts. But there is a connection somewhere, with your own theory (just not related to the lyrics) - because when someone feels shame, it's connected with energy blockages, and it may reflect on sexuality and desire afterwards (for example, becoming less expressive in that field). Now, this explanation doesn't mean I understand "the story", either - I just had to explain why you shouldn't interpret the lyrics so literally, it belittles him - he's on a totally different level with his music.... I was curious, indeed, if people understand the lyrics (there are some distinct phrases he uses, which are not conventional English - even if based on conventional talk - that's where I feel lost, because I know there's a reason why the phrase was changed, and yet I cannot interpret it)...
@byronarnaoutoglou8859 жыл бұрын
+Adina Ispas It doesn't belittle him, Adam has many songs with sexual little hints now and then. They're open to interpretation and besides these songs are light not like some other serious ones. Therefore, throwing some inuendos now and then is a good way to lighten the mood to fit the song.
