This video comes as a celebratory homage to my favourite singer's birthday.
Adam Levine turns 30 on March 18th, 2009. Being this eventful date a day of joy for me, I decided to switch from my usual style in the videos I put on on my You Tube page to create something that could underline the happy state of mind and heart that inhabits me when I think of Adam reaching the complete adulthood.
So, I chose to patch images together along the longest song of Maroon 5 in my (complete) record collection of their songs, and I chose also a song that could define for everybody's ears his music journey: so the main song here is the Remix version of This Love you find as 17th track on Call&Response (Cut Copy Galactic Beach House RMX: that one is 7 minutes and 21 seconds long, and being almost wordless, is a perfect background sound for the images sliding one into another, too).
Images here are from videos that I haven't yet used for previous homages.
There's the "grungey" version of Adam when he was a kid in Kara's Flowers starting performance at Whiskey A Go Go (the legendary Whiskey, if I may say), where you can clearly see there's a part of him that's VERY shy, and that makes him reclusive still about himself now as well. Thing that I LOVE about him, as much as I do appreciate that other part of him which is egocentric, talkative, funny and silly open when it's meant to. That's so distinctively TAO and I love these contradictions in him. They define the way he's deep and complex, which reads sexy and intriguing in my book.
There's the Soap Disco excerpt, the glimpsing of Graham Nash (GOD BLESS HIM: he was the one responsible, in the end, for makin us have Maroon 5), the video parts of Heard'Em Say in the Macy version, reminding of the way Adam's music tastes and collaborations show the interlacing of many, many different layers in his inspirational tablet), the extra footage out from Live on Friday that portrays him, as stated above, both in the funny silly shades and in the most personal, intimate solitude. There's the duet he probably loved the most to do, the one with his idol Stevie Wonder (only John Lennon could top that, but it can't happen, of course), piece that I love cos he was CLEARLY humbled, shocked, intimidated and overjoyed when he was up on stage with him and that natural rush of overwhelming feelings he allowed people to see that day shows how true as individual he is. I have also always loved that the stage behind him was reading "Italy... Japan" in the country reading of Live 8 parade. You know, I'm an Italian who adores Japan and who happens to idolize Mr. Levine. It seemed a sign, to me, to see him on a stage with those Country names backing his figure ;)).There are then images out from the DVD of Wal-Mart Soundcheck series and the adorable video I found on iTunes USA of If I Never See Your Face Again in the "only Maroon5" treatement (the one that I prefer. I can't cope with that Rihanna thing, sorry. I know he did that to have a further Grammy nominee, and that was fine and smart from Adam, but still, that is the only collaboration he will ever make I am ready to forget).
Final images are Adam in the "God's Gonna Cut You Down" video of Johnny Cash's song.
I also decided to include in the video excerpts of interviews where Adam tells valuable facts about the way he feels music, songwriting and the tricky managing of personal life versus artistical one. (Sorry for the little untiming in one piece of interview, it came out wrong but I couldn't make up my mind and remake this entire video, which is very long...). About the last issue, it doesn't surprise me what he said. I always have got the impression that the day he will develop the need of focusing on his personal life that will be a definitive thing. In a way, it's like the complete of his passion has to be poured in ONE vasel to make it working perfectly. So far, his biggest love is music. The day the most blessed female in the world will steal that place and become his main object of love, THE ONE to put it clearly up, I may sense he will be ready to wrap up curtains and retire. I won't condemn him then. I will wish him the best and thank him for giving me some of the best music beats in my life. But I hope it will take some years more, of course. I'm not ready to say bye to his heavenly voice yet. That voice suggests me so many wonderful dreams, you can't name nor count them all.
Favourite part of this video for me? So easy. Minute 7' 37" to minute 7' 46". OMG. (Can't help thinkin what somebody that trained in yoga practices can do in a bedroom. That elasticity and breathing control REALLY makes a huge difference in... erm... oh, you get that, don't you? Well, I DO. *faints in fantasizing*).
Enjoy!
