They also believe that ( except for the majority of grandmothers and greatgrandmothers) that mental and physiological health doesnt matter and only physical health matters. But thats probably because they come from an era people were supposed to use their bron and not their brain. And that women were always supposed to be housewives and damsels in distress, and that guys were never supposed cry and to be strong and hold up the family " honor and name" by having a boy for a kid. My mom takes out loans to pay other loans and this happened because she believed lawsuits, social security and child support was an absolute and normally when I see people living this dream it is not all of what its cracked up to be like I see some with a house, woman and child claiming they are living that dream only to see later that they were living a dream alright because I find them later in a police line up or thrown out by their loved ones. I saw his episode on renting vs owning a home and my stepmom has has her house up for sale for several years with plans to spend the cash to vanish with my pa once sold and mind you all her homes and cash was inherited and I guess people think her price is too steep because people here think a termite infested home is worth $12400 a week just for the bedroom part. Kinda reminds me of a dexters lab episode where he has his happy dreams then he entered nightmare territory.
@furrysourcecode9809

@@senorpants5604 I see how each loan or credit card or rent to own company has some sort of extra charge or interest rates like if my mom borrows $400 from cash net that montel williams endorses that becomes $450 and with one she got in the mail for $800 she would owe $850 that is if paid off on time but then just add the late fee each month for that one that makes it where that loan stays unpaid. I'll just say due to these expenses a calculator isn't going to help her cause. Then she wants credit cards and publishers clearing house and thinks tons of vitamin supplements and dextox helps her when I see she looks like she has a cold and is sleeping all day till she wants to wake up. And I think when I play adam ruins everything that she thinks shutting the door is like muting him and his reality in attempt to establish her own. XD

Not being able to buy in bulk is the least of the problems. The poor can pretty much always buy in bulk, but it sometimes requires getting together to do so. The real issues tend to be things like lack of banking, so they have to pay more to get their paychecks. Lack of grocery stores, so they wind up having to buy through more expensive convenience stores and an inability to get loans if they need them, so they're stuck going to payday lenders if they do need extra cash.

Very true. And we have media shove down our throats the myth, with stories like "look how this elementary school kid started a business that makes over a million dollars a year!" (while conveniently leaving out that their parents were wealthy enough to give their kid tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in startup money, and had connections to people in legal or business ventures that were able to provide support like getting legal paperwork completed, shipping logistics, and marketing-so the kid basically had an idea like millions of other americans but most people don't have access to the funds and resources required to start the business). They have pushed the "rags to riches" stories constantly, despite (or perhaps because) they are so insanely rare. And ironically, studies found it's actually also hard for rich people (those born into wealthy families) to become poor. Kind of an insult, if you are born into a poor family, you can struggle your entire life and still die poor; but if you are born into wealth you can screw up constantly and still generally be financially well-off. This country is more about connections than hard work, if you want a good paying job your best bet is just to 'network' (though a lot of that comes from parents as well, their connections help set up the ability for their children to make connections. It's not as simple as walking into a business expo and suddenly befriending powerful people-they often won't give you the time of day unless you have some connection to begin with)

@pablojams5152
@pablojams5152 3 жыл бұрын
All the people saying it’s easy just get a job at McDonald’s or something really have no idea what being poor is like. When you’re *already* poor it makes EVERYTHING harder to do. If you don’t have housing good luck getting access to anything that requires an address (jobs, social security etc.) McDonald’s also has actual requirements for working depending on the franchise owners discretion and you kind of need some form of transit if you can’t afford to live you probably can’t afford a bus pass or a bike. It’s not that getting out of poverty is impossible when you’re at least stable, it’s that getting out of it when you’re already in it stacks all the chips against you and in theoreticals you can’t just give concessions and assume everyone has access to even the most basic of financial mobility tools. It’s simply a broken system perpetuated by the myth of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps(an inherently impossible task) and kept going by the baby boomer generations mentality that if you’re poor then you’re just lazy. It’s sick.

Exactly. The study actually found that the correlation between father and son earnings in the US is about 0.4 which is barely above average. This suggests that the US has MORE social mobility that the UK and Italy, two places with higher tax rates then the US. The study also mentioned that you can’t make any policy prescriptions based on the comparison of the 24 countries because only FOUR of the countries were comparable with the US. One of those countries has LESS wage mobility than the US. According to Adam Conover, the US should raise taxes and create a welfare state based on only FOUR data points! Other research by UCLA economics professor Lee Ohanian found that while some of the European countries that raised their top marginal tax rates and corporate tax rates had lower income inequality than the US (only one European country is comparable to the US according to the study Adam Conover cited) the middle class and poor were not better off. The rich simply left the country. This lead to a massive drop in productivity and business formation. Average hours worked per person dropped 40% while the US economy steadily grew. There is a reason why almost all of these countries have taken steps to lower top marginal and corporate tax rates, raising taxes on the rich and redistributing income does not work. Adam Conover deceives his viewers and cherry picks and misinterprets research. Income inequality is a problem but higher taxes aren’t a solution. This show is clearly pushing an agenda.

Inequality doesn’t mean poverty. Anyone who’s not an idiot can tell you that the poor have been getting richer, just as the rich have, just not at the same rate. California and New York, both tax heavy states, are within the top 5 states with the worst income inequality. Taxes and social welfare programs don’t solve poverty they contribute to it. The United States is also an equal opportunity country, not equality of outcome, so it’s important to remember that not everyone deserves to climb the income ladder and those who can work hard and more importantly work smart can do so here. Super inaccurate video, tons of lies, not unusual for Adam Ruins everything. Usually don’t comment on these, but people who say poverty is too bad in the US and there’s no opportunities here are so blatantly wrong I have to say something. All Adam ruins are facts and logic.

@@JohnSmith-xi2ew "You do realise those billions of dollars of research are funded by taxpayers, and then for profit companies swope in and buy the rights." I don't think that's how it works but if it is then it's technically not funded by taxpayers since the rights are bought, meaning that somebody paid money for them and took the burden off the tax payer. "Anything completely new usually comes from taxpayers or from nonprofits." that is absolutely not true. the companies that build all of the machines are privately owned. and a lot of research is privately funded as well. governments don't pay much so breakthroughs are smaller. so much more can be done with private funding. "Also, you do realise EVERYONE gets sick right? So everyone benefits from a system where they get healthcare guaranteed," ok first of all there is a difference between going to urgent care because you have the flu, and checking into a hospital because you have cancer. and second why should everybody have guaranteed healthcare? I just got through talking about this. "even if they happen to be a person who pays more than then what they get back because they never got seriously ill." you might be fine with losing tons of money for no reason but I am not. I would rather pay less and have better healthcare. "This isn't theoretical, every other developed country guarantees healthcare as a human right," yeah and their healthcare sucks. you'll die waiting in line in any of those countries. that's why people in those countries come to the US for healthcare. anything beyond a broken bone or a virus is beyond them. some of them will actually let you die because you consume too many resources and they only have so much to give since they are throttled by a government budget. "I'm all for freedom of choice, it's fine if hospitals remain private businesses, but why health insurance?" because why not? I will admit that premiums have gone up quite a bit in the last decade, but why shouldn't it be corporately owned. there is competition in insurance.
@ElectronicsForFun
@ElectronicsForFun 5 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-xi2ew "you didn't address the difference between innovation and invention and why profit motives favor only innovation." innovation and invention are kind of 1 and the same. "You also didn't respond to WHY I think universal healthcare is worth it for everyone (everyone around you is healthier)." because nobody had a right to be healthy. "If your just going to disagree with what I say without responding to my reasoning, there just isn't any point in continuing. 2) I think we just have fundamentally different goals." isn't that why we are debating? if we agreed then there wouldn't be anything to talk about here. "I view a world in which everyone has healthcare and other basic human rights as a better world than this one, while you seem hung up on making sure no one takes more than they give back." being healthy is NOT a basic human right, if it was then humans would be immune to all diseases. healthcare is a commodity, somebody is doing a service for you and you pay them for it. people who got the plague, way back when, died from it. right now the plague is highly curable and everybody is going to think they have a right not to have the plague but what about all of the people who died from it before the technology existed? where were their "basic human rights" back then, hmm? healthcare isn't a right, everybody just wants it to be a right. and I don't think it should be. if you can't care for yourself or you're not in a position to pay somebody to do it for you... then you die. "you seem hung up on making sure no one takes more than they give back." it's not that black and white, but yes that is what I think. give me a reason why it should be different. if somebody contributes nothing to their community and can't care for themselves and consume more resources than they produce, then why keep them around? what makes them so special that you can't just let him die? he can't care for himself and he's a leech so what's the use in keeping him around? "If you don't already have empathy for your fellow man, there isn't much I can say over the internet to change that." this isn't about empathy it's about common sense. I have no problem in helping my fellow man, but I am not giving him the fish he's gonna learn how to catch his own fish. I'll spot a guy a couple bucks so he can go into a gas station and get something to eat and drink but that's it! I am not going hold his hand, I am not going to give him an apartment and pay his rent. if he can't take care of himself then he's going to die, eventually he'll run into the wrong people at the right time and will get nothing. you can't rely on panhandling to pay your bills. "You are just factually incorrect about healthcare sucking in countries like say, Canada." no I am factually correct. hundreds of thousands of people come here just for the healthcare. "In Canada, if you need treatment right away, you get it immediately, and you come out of the hospital with no bill." that's not true, people in canada have to wait months to get anything done unless it's a life threatening emergency but even then they'll make you wait if they can. they abuse the hell out of their system. "It is true that RICH people come to America to get treatment, because we do have some of the best healthcare for people who can afford it, I'll give you that." that's all I need given.

"When you get fired for accidentally telling your boss to his face that it was good when his daughter did not get treated for her terminal cancer back when he didn't have health insurance, you will wish we didn't tie health insurance to work." why would I say that? what the hell is wrong with you? first of all that can't happen because my bosses and upper middle class and have premo healthcare. and second I would never tell somebody or even think that it was good that their loved one died. you make it sound like I want people to die. I don't want people to die but that's nature and as much as you may want to, you can't deny it. it's natural selection, the weak and ill die off leaving the strongest to survive. interfering with that only creates problems, that's why evolution is going backwards. we're so insistent on saving people who can't be saved.

If you actually checked the links to the sources Adam gave you would see a completely different story. America is 8th in the world for upward mobility not 16th. That 16th listing is on a son’s wealth compared to their father’s. A finding that the study itself says doesn’t really mean anything. Anyone who has been poor and credit less who actually looked for a credit card would know that several are available. Their interest rates just suck since they’re for a first time card holder. His $400 dollar emergency claim is bs too. That study actually said that 61% of Americans have $400 or more cash on hand for emergencies. Not that 39% couldn’t handle or survive a $400 emergency. Just that they don’t have $400 cash set aside for emergencies. Just check the links that Adam left if you don’t believe me. I’m just amazed that he left the links to the evidence that proves he was wrong. Even more amazed at how many people didn’t even bother checking and just believe the things he says to be true! SMH
