It's hard to convey what is was like to people who werent alive then. The Cold War ended peacefully and so suddenly (after everyone assuming they would die in a nuclear apocalypse for so long!) but it was before 9 11, when acts of terrorism were usually very limited in scope. And for a chunk of it, the economy was absolutely roaring, yet college was much cheaper in comparison to now. It was incredible.

Today, I invented the double-decker sloppy joe. A little mayo on the bottom slice of a lightly toasted white bun, a scoop of joe, a slice of cheese that melts to the joe and keeps it together, on top of that, another scoop of joe and another slice of cheese to hold THAT scoop down. That's all there is to it. I added a sprinkle of red pepper to the joe for some kick. It was pretty damn good! And yeah, I came here cuz I had that damn chorus in my head the whole time I was cooking it up.

Found this after S3 E17 of King of the Hill, where Hank takes his mother and her old lady friends to see some glass miniatures. When they arrive in town, Hank sees college students in a bar. Soon after, all-out spring break erupts complete with a party stage. There, "The Rockadillo" and an unnamed host announce that they have Adam Sandler, but he is never seen on stage. Instead, throughout the episode we hear a voice going "Sloppy joe, slop slop sloppy joe!" Hank Hill defeats The Rockadillo and escapes the stage after rescuing an old lady who had been carried away by the crowd. Once she's back in the van and they leave for the ferry to make a getaway, a helicopter drops a giant beer on the road in front of the van with Hank and the old ladys. A voice is heard from the helicopter saying "Sloppy joe, slop slop sloppy joe!" as Hank veers off the road into spike strips, popping the tires. In hot pursuit from (apparently Adam Sandler) in the helicopter above, Hank drives the van on its rims, jumping the gap onto the ferry. I saw this episode many times years and years ago, and never knew Adam Sandler was in that helicopter messing with Hank and shouting about sloppy joes. Great show, and great performance it references.
