I work with the homeless (going on 9 years now) and one thing people should keep in mind is you are dealing with generations of trauma -- a lot of those individuals were standing in line to get a meal at the local shelter with their mom, grandma, etc as little children. When you know better , you do better but where does it start? It starts with people like Mark - one person believing in them. It may not end with him for the process and journey is long but it starts

as a professional working in the social safety net do you think that it is irresponsible for people to hand out money and apartments to addicts or the homeless? or... is it more responsible to recognize there are professionals who have devoted their lives to working in social safety net whom are able to recognize "the type of help" someone actually needs? if someone came up to you and said "I don't think the professionals in the social safety net are doing their job, so, I've been giving money and paying rent for every prostitute and drug addict that I meet" would you congratulate them? is that the correct way for us as a society to handle these extremely nuanced issues of homelessness and drug addiction? what advice would you give to someone who says "I want to help! So I'm going to give people whatever they tell me they need! If they need money I'll give it to them, if they need housing I'll just give it to them. whatever they tell me they need: I'll just give it to them. with no judgment, no discriminating awareness, and I'll just believe whatever they tell me about what type of help they need"

Exactly ...Like a spark of light in a reality of darkness. Enough to let you know there's a different reality out there that you are worthy of ...if you want it. Breaking generational trauma is like a rely race. You're not gonna finish it alone but as long as you do your part and pass the baton.

Exactly even the “fast money” part - of course you don’t understand the difference of working and wanting your money the same day instead of waiting a week. I’m a waitress on and off for 9 years now and any time I tried going to a job and waiting 2 weeks I would leave and go back to serving and making my money the exact same day. And Adam needs to be fr, if someone put money in his face and say “do you want this today or in 2 weeks?” He’s not going to say in 2 weeks.

I grew up with sexual abuse and got battered by my dad and grandad. I was in a coma for 15 days last yr from an attempted suicide because I am literally brain damaged from the SA and couldn't stand all the pain that is going to be here until I die. Some people have bad formative yrs but they didn't become pimps, rapists and abusers. Some people are just selfish, lowlife scum and have no desire to change. Some people never deserved a chance to get into a better position in life. The pimp that turned up to meet Mark was only there to put a face to a source of money and have the opportunity to scam even more. He had no shame and would take everything Mark has in a second and she would of gone along with that. Some people are just real scum and always will be.

No, he doesn't care, and he says he doesn't care. He says it repeatedly. There are many good people who see him patiently asking questions, not seeming to do harm, and they seem to project onto Mark their ideas of good, all the more urgently because good seems to be needed in the lives of his interviewees. Just understand that this is you being good. It's nothing to do with Mark. He knows nothing. He's studied nothing. He makes fundamental blunders, including some that violate confidentiality of innocent minors (as in the case of the interviewee I know). He doesn't fix his mistakes. He's just making money after, presumably, being wiped out by a divorce settlement.

Sharp called it!... Mark is "really in it to help people" and "he would've done it for a man," 100% actual factuals! You can tell Mark is one of those ppl that just wants to HELP! Genuinely HELP other human beings, with no hidden agenda or foul motives, just pure unadulterated empathy, compassion, and love for other humans. Adam has truly detached himself from the collective conscience. It saddens me to see someone show such disdain for their fellow man. Unfortunately, this is often the case for those who attain success in the material world, they lose sight of their reflection in the eyes of the downtrodden. In contrast, Sharp exemplifies the attributes of the fully self actualized man. Although not in the situation currently, he has enormous empathy for what the people described are going through. I love how he just laughs off Adams insensitive remarks, and casually turns the conversation around into an intelligent display of grace and kindness. This interview was a demonstration of boastful ignorance vs humble knowledge, and it was very entertaining. I honestly think Mark would be shaking his head at Adams comments, calling his beloved guests “motherfuckers”. Adam, until you change your view of life, and those around you, you will live a vapid existence, chasing one dopamine rush after the other, finding that nothing truly fills your soul. I hope you find the meaning of life, like Sharp and Mark have.

Adam needs to humble himself it’s sad seeing that LA clout shit get to his head, thought he was smarter than all that shit. Putting down homeless and the addicted ain’t a damn good look. ❤ As a former homeless person, it’s totally fine to be overprotective of oneself from individuals living seedy lifestyles and also being empathetic of them. But he ain’t gonna get that bc he’s probably never been homeless (just an assumption) and probably never will be. The problem is him being ostentatious, coming off as conceitedly self assured in a brash way… most likely because of the LA Influencer clouty lifestyle that he lives. It’s all good though. It’s not like he’s out here being one of those homeless and druggies deserve to die types of people. I respect him and hope he grows into a more humble and empathetic man someday.

I think you've gotta understand that it's not that he thinks he's better, it's that he got tired of people rudely and constantly coming to his place of business to ask for free money - and expecting to get it. I used to live in downtown Dallas and this was before it got more friendly like it is today. I'd have my girl over and we'd walk across the street to a Mexican food joint to have dinner. We'd be walking back across the street - literally JUST across the street, like, right across, not 50 yrds down across - and we'd have at least 2 "homeless" guys aggressively badgering me for my to-go container. They knew I was with my woman and either were or were trying to act like unpredictable dudes who you should just give the food to in order to get them to go away. Screw that bro, I didn't give them shit, opportunities or not, they were out of line and trying to take advantage of me. I moved out of downtown and never gave anyone anything after that experience. This is something like Adam's experience no doubt.

@@yoursurgerysister It happened more than once. I lived downtown for a year and had multiple experiences (twice with the restaurant thing, and also saw homeless duck into the place and grab a handful of mints off the hostess stand and duck back out and wait to heckle whoever was leaving the place). Also, I'm not necessarily judging them per se, I'm saying they can act a way that makes people adopt different behaviors towards them. My behavior now is to not be in areas where homeless people are because SOME will act that way and I have no idea which ones will or won't, so I avoid them altogether. As for wanting them to have better lives and things, I don't want anyone to live like that but I also don't think it's an excuse to try and aggressively intimidate non-homeless. Also had a bad experience with two at a Whataburger, finally had to stop going there because they would wait by the drive through sign and accost you for money while you were ordering. If you ate inside they would accost you on the way out for free food.

@@lurkwave that's the same way I see it. I know so many people who say they don't give them money because they are just going to go buy drugs or liquor, and I get where they are coming from. I just see it as that's not my business, I either got it to spare or I don't, and I either give it to someone or don't. I do it to try to be a decent person and because I would hope someone would do the same if I'm ever in that situation. Whether they go buy food and drinks or drugs it doesn't change that I have tried to help them and be a good person. I also honestly don't care what they spend the money on because once I give it to them it is theirs to do with what they want. If they go spend it on drugs, then I guess that next hit and being high is as important to them as having food and not being hungry is to me and I'm not going to pass judgement on them for that.

Sharp is in contrast, on point and thoughtful about the situation." Edit: my opinion on Adam has softened a little. He's more thoughtful than I gave him credit for, based on what I've seen subsequently from this initial "hot take". He's not a bad guy by any stretch and we're all just trying to live our best. Edit: During a series of interviews Mark did with a crack addict called Pat, it was a particularly honest and compelling interview and Mark remarked that what he was doing with the channel wasn't about drug abuse or trauma, it was really about self-love. If you're about to reply with some hot take about how Mark is naive and Adam just "gets reality bro and how harsh life is", have a think about what kind of person sets about documenting the stories; many incredibly harrowing; of hundreds of the most disadvantaged and deeply troubled people in America. He exposes himself on the regular to serious and real risk to do so. The value that's been found from such a channel for people experiencing anything remotely close to those realities is immeasurable and he does it not for monetary gain or exposure but for understanding and compassion.

Not to mention that Adam doesn’t even seem to acknowledge trauma, and conditioning some of these “motherfuckers” have been through a lot of shit, shit that can change your brain. Especially when starting from a young age that’s how you’ll end up. It’s hard to break habits, it’s easier said than done. When you were only shown or taught certain things, the human mind adapts. When you have no support for a long time your brain attempts to find stuff to substitute. These people with messed up backgrounds/history don’t have as much of a choice as Adam here probably did. Sometimes things feel so hard and it’s hard to accomplish alone, or surrounded by people who drag you down. Exotic could have maybe done better, but money doesn’t help and everyone knows that, if you’ve ever really experienced having a loved one in that condition, they need mental support, mental evaluation sometimes. Rehab even, but it’s hard to make people go and it also isn’t cheap. How are homeless people gonna get a job when they have nowhere safe to sleep and no one wants to help? How do they get ready for a job interview with no clothes, money, utilities? It’s never that simple(those examples are just the tip of the iceberg) And there are tons on “motherfuckers” who are out here to just scam, and yes it can get excessive, and yes many are drug addicted (harder drugs alter your brain) so it makes sense these people fall deeper and deeper into thinking irrationally. I’ve been scammed plenty of times by these people. Some are really just off the wall and fucked up. What can you do? Has anyone ever thought about what’s brought them to this point? Or does everyone think like Adam and generalize all people as dumb animals who all are looking to TAkE HiS mOnEy. Maybe they thought you had a kind enough heart to help them out day by day, who fucjing knows. They are obviously desperate, if they had enough money to feed themselves healthily and satisfy their hunger, happiness, they wouldn’t be fucking asking. You don’t have to give them money either. So quit complaining. Life is full of crazy shit and if other people who are suffering and can’t even afford to live a quarter of the life you do, makes you irritated, annoyed…stfu. It is good to stay safe and it is good to be cautious(it is common sense)It’s nice Adam is worried about Mark’s safety, but mark chooses to do this, because people like Adam wouldn’t. It takes a lot of different people to make the world go around. Mental health is a huge factor in these cases. If you don’t like these “kinds” of people oh well. This is one of many problems growing bigger and bigger in our country and most ppl are too ignorant to see it’ll never get better if we can’t work together.

I was fortunate enough to come across some really great ppl and some really terrible ppl that shaped my life the way it did. Im grateful i led myself down that path and also thankful i worked my ass off outta there. Ive od'd 14 times on coke/heroin and aint nobody fault but my own. Them days where shit aint workin out and there aint no money to be made are soul crushin. I gave a dude a 40 of h once cuz he was goin thru it bad n he literally said that kept him from jumpin in front of a car. Months down the line i had it bad and he brokw me off some. I entirely understand Adam's point of view. I could imagine "Exotic's" pimp seeing one of Mark's videos and wanting to take advantage of his kindness to make some extra money. I also understand not wanting to donate to someone at a place you frequent because they might continuously ask for more, or not wanting to have to tell them you aren't gonna give them more money, or just not trusting how they'll use the money. The thing is, Adam is comparing his singular good deed of kindness to someone whose PASSION it is to help people. People like Mark, who give their platforms for another person's story, people that choose to constantly aid others, do so knowing the risks it entails. They know some people will abuse their kindness, but that's a chance they're willing to take. Even if 99 out of 100 people took advantage of their services, it'd still be worth it for the 1 person who genuinely needed it. Sadly you can't always tell when someone in need actually wants your help or wants to exploit it, so they help all regardless.

It's hard work being homeless. Sharp talks like he went through it. When you have nowhere to sleep , it ruins your whole next day. Once you get stuck in homelessness , it's really hard to get out of when you have no one to help you out. Try getting a job when you have nowhere to sleep , shower or have clean clothes. No address , phone or money. A job is damn near impossible to get once you fall that far. Don't judge someone unless you have been through what they have.

What she needed was trauma therapy. I wish people understood the way trauma works..and I think learning this would help the interviewer understand on a whole new level how to help and what to help with. What she did is all her nervous system and world view deemed safe and familiar (as strange as that may sound). For an intro to all of this read What happened to you? It's heartbreaking to see where she is, and the fact that now there's another person controlling her... She looks like she's suffocating in his presence.

God, yes. How much I wish people who have so much reach in social media would inform themselves with professionals about these things, because they end up showing a very reductionist version of reality and reaffirm the idea that these people "don't want to be well" like man it's not that simple. It is a very complex situation that, yes, needs the willingness to change and the effort of the person involved, but it also requires professional help, not only money and a nice house

Not only should Mark be armed in his studio but he should hire an off duty LAPD officer. If some thugs try to shake down Mark, charge him rent or want that GoFundMe money they are going to have to shake down the off duty LAPD. Mark can afford it now and safety is very important.

I believe it was implied in an interview that the pimp for Exotic threatened Mark. It really shook Mark up but he didn’t tell the cops about the threats, he offered both pimp and Exotic the rest of their GoFundme $$ for an interview which you can watch on Soft White Underbelly…I recommend you watch that interview. Exotic says about 3 words (no thank you’s) and her pimp sounds like he may have completed 3rd grade. Once Mark posted that interview, it was all there for us to see and the word got out about those two scumbags. Sharp always stands up for Mark…I don’t understand Adam’s attitude towards Mark and his channel. Is it too hard for him to believe that there are compassionate, charitable KZbinrs? Because he can’t personally fathom it? Is it jealousy? Or because Mark is a square and hasn’t sold his soul it the devil like Adam has? I don’t know but there is something there 🤷‍♀️
