I always took the meaning of this song as hey, we're wrecking the planet with pollution and the threat of nuclear war and we need to wake up before it's too late. Oh, and one more thing...it's hard to tell on the album version but towards the end of the 1st instrumental, Danny stood up at the concert and smashed a huge gong behind him. It was my favorite moment from the show.

The ocean sounds that bookend the track also point to this theme (rising sea levels). The song is a warning and a call to action to prevent climate disaster.

I never thought about it that way, but I think you’re right. Adam was really front and center on this album. Danny was a standout as well. Justin was a bit more understated than usual. And obviously Maynard took a step back to let the boys shine.

This song to me is about a call to arms through our collective consciousness to the primal "body" of all of humanity to rise up now and act before it's too late. Not just to rise up off our couches and do something but to rise, ascend in our vibration/energy/spirit; for us to change now and ascend to the next density as our world shifts consciousness and shifts its actual position in the galaxy (check out the Great Year or earth's 26000 year procession) to one of higher electrical energy (Tesla's electric universe theory); the shifting between the age of Pisces and age of Aquarius. The saying goes "we are on this rock flying through space", or floating even. But floating isn't infinite as the movement of our planet is caused by gravity and electrical fields. The gravity of our sun, nearby planets, and each other star continued on to the center of our galaxy, is all pulling us as we fall through this space. Falling isn't flying, we will not float forever. If we want to fly and reach the infinite consciousness then we must wake from this slumber (the saturn frequency), wake from this lower vibrational matrix this world has us in and rise to stay alive, lest this be our swan song and epilogue. This reflects on not only the cosmic transition our planet is going through now, but the associated vibrational and spiritual change, to the current socio and political climate changing as globalism/communism/luciferianism/'cult of El' tries to take over and the world's collective consciousness is beginning to push back and not consent! We may just be in earth's and humanities swan song, "to be or not to be". Will we rise, or descend? The song itself even fights against it's own title as it ascends in tone, energy and speed etc throughout, willing us through all aspects of this song to not descend but to fight against that and ascend.

If someone held a gun to my head and forced me to pick my favorite TOOL song, it would probably be this one. It feels as though you are wading out into the ocean before being pulled down into the abyss, spit back out, and washed back upon the shore.

Lethargy and apathy have not so much killed the kingdom as it is *killing* the kingdom, present tense. I like to think that this song is a warning against the stagnation and apathetic nature of most modern day people. Its too common to see people just not really care about changing things for the better, whether it comes to everyday life to major topics and events happening around the world. For true change, better change, more people need to commit to it.

I LOVE that it’s taken a bit of a turn from all the previous ones. Let’s be real, they’re getting older, it only makes sense to be evolving. This is by far my favorite on the album. Just growing up with Tool at about the times that my own journey has matched up with theirs...this song takes on a whole new meaning when I've grown old...not so invincible as before, life is all about my children and their survival. This song helps push me harder and harder every time I hear it. Still us from our wanton slumber..... such a powerful lyric. Call yourself to arms and order and survive, grow, learn, love. Love YOU Skullz!!!! Your reactions are by far my favorite of all the Tool reactions. A lot of them seemed to jump on the bandwagon because they knew that the Tool Army would get them some views, but you went next level. My favourite from the album also (though 7empest is up there for it's riff alone). 1 lyrical addition I'd make is in the first line. "Freefall through. Our midnight" sounds like a reference to the doomsday clock. A hypothetical clock used to express how far from Armageddon (midnight) we are. It's a plea to humanity to save itself before it's to late rather than watch the world burn thinking "well this isn't my fault and I can't do anything about it". I love the buzzy effect put on Justin's bass (I don't play an instrument so I may be wrong). Don't ask why I just do. Also you're dead right on Maynard's lyrical style being like poetry. It's what drew me into the band in the first place. Excellent analysis mate. Next video should be pretty light on given the next 2 songs on the album

Reveille kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXjRi6uZiJyJgaM The "You're late to formation song" It's all about being ready for the day - "If you're not 10 minutes early, you're late" - If you're not prepared you're too late. This Song started as a call to wake the troops and bring them to order. Technology puts the responsibility on the individual soldier and the reveille now acts as a final warning and signifies the start of the workday - except for the cooks - they've already been up for hours.

Don't get me wrong Adam's riffs all thru the song are truly works of art. Danny & Maynard are their usual awesome selves but what seems to get overlooked is Justin. While all of these other guys are great he not only answers them but he carries this song top to bottom. What a freaking masterpiece! Has anyone noticed a lot of these songs talk about the end of something. There is no way they can stay this strong for 10 more years. Are we seeing the end of the greatest band ever? Sure hope not.
