In my opinion, it's best with a Chorus. Awesome performance!

Absolutely! With this music it's like I have a ringside seat at the Witches' Sabbath. Truly fearsome stuff here.

Truly fascinating to hear. Yes, it's obvious that R-K based his version on this version and so, those "fanfares" he is credited (and criticised) for adding were actually Mussorgsky's in the first place! This version is as far from the original as Rimsky's, or Stokowski's. Amazing however that the strength of the original ideas manages to work in all these versions we now have access to!

Yeah that's pretty interesting... I wonder if those who criticize Rimsky-Korsakov for adding in certain sections change their opinion when they find out it was actually Mussorgsky

actually this choral version was totally done by Rimsky-Korsakov as the most popular non-singed version of this piece, as Mussorgsky had died before finishing the scores of his other least famous operas, Fair of Sorochinsty (where this piece goes interpolated as an optional scene) and Khovanshina, so his friend had to finish and redone most of the unfinished work (he only acheived to complete one opera, scoring it twice, the famous Boris Godunov). Mussorgsky original work doesn´t sound in all like this or the popular non-choral version, and it´s pretty much messy and hard to tune with it, so Rimsky-Korsakov actually did a great work for this and the non-choral version of that.

IMHO, the orchestral version (R-K) overall sounds darker and scarier (which should go as a compliment to the Maestro:) )

@@lhadzyan7300 You are not correct. This version is based on Mussorski's original piano score. This NOT Rimsky-Korsakov. Of course the scoring is based on the original Mussorski from 1867. So what we have is [pretty much all MM.
