Hey adam if you don’t mind me asking what knife brand’s do you recommend for someone just starting life throwing

Ideally you want the balance point with the pommel wedge into the middle of your palm to the tip of your middle finger; for me it is four inches, front contact has to be just behind the balance point, For very small and light projectiles you need the balance point near the middle of your palm, because it is too small, lighter object like a pencil or pen will lack the range and damage of a bigger and heavier object, but that depends on what is propelling it of course, how strongly you can throw; if you are good you can easily punch through 3mm of sheet steel with a knife no spin at up to 7 yards, a kitchen knife can stick into a concrete slab at 7 yards

You should have no favourite; just train hard in all methods with any object; but work hard on no spin, it is one of the hardest fucking skills I ever learned, I also sling David and Goliath type sling style and have become good at it, both no spin knife throwing and sling are two of the hardest things ever to become good at

@kibonge61 To get any good at sling Iiterally threw stones only with a sling for over ten years, it becomes second nature, it can now go with a decent level of accuracy, but still nowhere as accurate as slingshot, which can definitely put meat in the pot

Hello old friend, for me when I took part in spin throwing competitions with set distances. I made my knives balance at a calculated point to suit all the required distances for blade and handle throws. After 48 years of throwing knives, I worked out that the balance point for me, needed to be at 0.5522 times the length of the knife in centimetres measured from the tip. Eg a knife 35.5cm long should balance at 19.6cm from the tip, making it slightly blade heavy to be able for me to confidently spin throw it and be within the limits of each distance. I love your video lessons; you obviously know what you're doing, and how it all works! Besides the facts and techniques, you convey the passion you have for the throwing art. I used to dabble in knife throwing as a teen; I found it to be therapeutic, as the deep satisfaction felt from a well centered "thunk" of blade piercing the target is immediate and visceral. I mostly just did half-spin throwing, but never quite got the no-spin to work consistently. You're inspiring me to restart that very rewarding hobbie. Thank you much!

No spin is definitely not the easiest lol. Try trying it underhand! U can get alot of distance, but it's great for self defense situations cus u keep it at ur hip, point down, and just raise ur hand up, thwip, and they never see it coming 😂

I feel like I knew the answer before you really started the video because the way one grips the knife and then the type of throwing they do can be improved upon or maybe hindered by the choice of knife or shuriken or whatever it is that the person wants to throw. I always seem to be so busy but I would love to just cut my own simple throwing knives so I can spend cool afternoons throwing knives in the targets

I throw no spin and military half spin. I prefer a handle heavy for both. I've added around an ounce of birdshot to the handles of both my glocks and they hit almost twice as hard and it has helped increase my distance. CHEERS!!!

I have just started throwing knives, so I don't know yet but handle heavy feels good. I have only been throwing for about a week because of the weather but my first knives are all Acejets. I bought the Excaliburs for learning half spin, I'm getting the Stingers for learning no spin for Christmas and I couldn't help but order some Appaches today to learn skanf! (and to get a free raptor mini! I just missed the bo-shurikans deal with my first order which was dissapointing but oh well) I am only throwing half spin for now but I want no spin to be my main technique. You, Tom Tom and Yuri are huge inspirations for me as a beginner! I just can't wait to develop my own style one day. Thank you for all of your videos, I have found them very helpful!

Don't get too many when u first start. Get a feel for one style knife first and when u can consistently stick that, start trying different kinds. I started with 8 inch classic feather, circus shaped ones, got pretty good with those, then got my 10 in Gil hibbens, and in my prime, I could hit anything with those and pretty much any 10in after that. Just a little advice.

@@Zeeboklown I know. I'm mainly taking advantage of the sale. I plan to focus on one technique with one knife at one distance. I am choosing military half spin at 3 meters with the Excaliburs. I plan to do this for the next few months with walk back and THEN move on to no spin with the Stingers for a really long time. Also, I love knives! Always have, worked with them all my life. Why wouldn't I want to start a new collection? 😂

My throwers are middle balanced with handle contoured for spin. I will get some no spin blades and work on the technique. It would be awesome to be able to throw my blades from any distance. I'm proficient at 2 rotations or 6 paces. Thanks again

I'm a big fan of your knife throwing videos and hope one day. I will be able to purchase one of yours. I learned to throw knives from my Uncle when I was just a little kid. Unfortunately, life gets in a way of things and I've become a bit rusty. However i'm working towards getting back into it. Knife throwing is in a way therapeutic for me. When life gets stressful, I'll go out and throw. It just mellow's me out.

Same here. When I was first learning, I would take a measured amount of tape around the handles of my balanced knives to make them slightly handle heavy. Basically I like it that way cus other than bowie knives, most knives are handle heavy

Handle heavy would make sense that its good for no spin seeing u have urs weighted all at the butt, so its balance like a traditional kunai. I find theres a difference between just handle heavy or all the weight at the pommel and not distributed thru the whole handle. If that makes sense

My original set was handle heavy Gil Hibbens. I liked the feel of them, so I have collected quite a few more of a similar design but cheaper. I have one that has a bolt on weight that can be slid forward or backward along a channel. It half spins better blade heavy.

Yup but only for the no spin and not other techniques for classic knife throwing its really the best some good knife and go from Basics easy close distances half spin or full spin some people dont get no spin from the start

I'm wondering if most cheap throwing knives are generally too light for good distance and penetration? Looks like all those knives are rather heavy, regardless of where the balance point is... Im sure anyone who masters techniques can throw anything, but for a beginner, would you say heavier knives give better results?

1000 % better Result any custom knife will be always better then small cheap throwing knives they could be also Dangerous because they rebounce more from the target but of course you have to practice a lot even with the best knives but its wayy easier and also more fun 😎

Wouldn't the knife with a heavier blade be more suitable for half spin or instinctive half spin? Because the center of gravity on the blade wouldn't make it easier to control the rotation rate with a grip on the blade?

No way man; balance matters most with no spin, not spin; been at this for over 10 years, but man it was worth it, it is a matter of finding the balance point of the implement, it could be many things: kitchen knife, they are VERY Well balanced) cutlery knife/fork, screw driver, pen, pencil, chopstick, nonspin my preferred method, it has become instinctive and I swear by it if I was to defend my own life or someone I care about As I always say, firearms are more powerful and longer range, but they run out of ammo, sharp pointed objects are EVERYWHERE, albeit less damage power and range When I am in a restaurant for example I know I there is numerous shit I can use if some lunatic busted in and started shooting up the place, one of the best are steak knives, they are heavy, sharp and well balanced, but in the hands of someone like me or Adam, it is not a problem with balance, if you train hard, you get to the point you can stick just about anything with a sharp point, honestly

@@Jmbr-eh6xr balance point doesn't matter. i just use my regular grip for any throwing implement and it works pretty much perfectly. you can throw just about anything with a sharp tip regardless of balance.

@@beacon6424 Correct, a skilled thrower doesn’t need specially made knives, (although they should be used by beginners, specially made throwing knives will provide greater consistency to skilled throwers; just like with firearms you get used to the weight, recoil of a certain model of rifle) they can about stick anything, that is what makes us knife throwers deadly, as said sharp pointed objects are Everywhere, I just get good at throwing everything with a sharp point in the house, I do have my first set of throwing knives but not felt the need to buy more specially made throwing knives Damage it can do depends on the size of the implement, you should be good at all methods: no spin, half spin and full spin, but no spin is best for most situations, it is very difficult to master, but worth it It amuses me when I see articles saying that throwing knife is a crap weapon, arguments against it are lame: 1. Throwing a knife disarms you and arm the other guy - bullshit, you wouldn't carry just one knife and you wouldn't throw the last one, Unless sure of a kill, and if you are good knife thrower, who is going to stop and pick up the knife?! They would be running for their lives and assumed you have more 2. Lacks damage or stopping ower - depends on the size and weight of the knife, a large kitchen knife thrown no spin would go through you at 7 yards, it can go through 2mm - 3mm sheet steel or embed into a brick wall, what can it do if it connected to the body

Place your back against the target count Out 10 or 11 footsteps....Your shoe size automatically does the math for your reach... Place both feet on. Line. If you're dominant right? Hand take one step with left foot... And reverse engineer for left hand Dominant... Throttle back on your force. Kinetic energy can be your friend and your enemy.
