So I play a game in my head each time I watch your videos trying to figure out your next composition. At the start of this video as you stand in front of an Arbutus there is a silvery stump off your left shoulder that I thought was magnificent and so I was wrong when I thought you would shoot it. Always enjoy your lessons.

100% worth the money, simply for the future of my business. Like the D4, this camera will still be a great camera 10 years from now... that being said, the 50R is a steal for the price and probably good enough for 95% of situations.

Good afternoon Adam. Like you I have a Nikon D850, and I have been shooting the Fuji Xt series since XT1 (as my fine art street camera) I used the D850 for my profesional Architectural photography with the Nikor 14-24mm lens. I was going to pick up the GFX50 for my pro work but heck not that much of a difference from the D850 plus no wide angle lens. But I did wait and pulled the picked up this August the GFX100 along with the 23mm and 45-100mm lens. I love the 3d effect medium format gives. Plus the clients love the details of the building the camera can produce . Yes its expensive but it pays for itself and gives me a competitive edge to other photographers. Also I just love Fuji cameras all in all i am very pleased with my purchase and so is the camera store lol. All the best and I'll have to make it to your part of the wood as soon as the Covid this is over and done with.

I have a 50R which I purchased myself, also have the GFX100 which I got work to purchase. To be honest, the 100 is a little more than what I'll probably ever need. Aside from the shortened blackout time and moderately better autofocus, the 50R does everything I need it to. Just spent 10 days on a landscape trip and the 100 stayed at camp as a backup in case anything happened to the 50R. You really can't go wrong with anything in the GFX line though.
@TheLDunn1
@TheLDunn1 4 жыл бұрын
I have a 50r too, which I use along side an A7R3. Which I grab depends upon what I expect to go and shoot. If I’m shooting action, or something requiring a long lens, or stabilisation, then I grab the Sony. If it’s a wide to short telephoto lenses, old manual focus lenses, subjects which are largely stationary or at least slow moving, then I grab the 50r. The 50r’s AF I think is pretty poor, which the way I’m using the camera - mostly with old adapted manual lenses, is not an issue to me. I was interested in hearing about the GFX100 AF vs the 50r’s.
@JordanMarsh0217
@JordanMarsh0217 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheLDunn1 I mainly use the GFX100 for my aerial work. Basically shooting from a helicopter and photographing powerlines and train lines. I'm not sure of the technical numbers of each camera as far as sensitivity goes but the 100 seems a little bit snappier than the 50R and it handles low light focusing a little better as well, I haven't tested these things extensively side by side though. The 100 just feels faster. I also have a Nikon kit I use for flying as well with a 600mm for detail images and 70-200 for more of an overall photo. Those are pretty much what I use 95% of the time and the gfx100 is only there for specific situations. It still can't hang with the Nikons and I need to move fast and accuracy needs to be spot on, the Fuji's aren't quite there yet for what I need. That said though, between my Fuji, Canon, and Nikon setups, I take what I feel will do whatever job I'm doing the best. I think pairing the 50r with the Sony is a nice combo for sure. I did a family shoot today and had the Nikon with the 70-200, Canon with a 35, and the 50R with the 50mm :D

@@JordanMarsh0217 in the market to buy one, people often say the 50px difference is unnoticeable unless you crop in. Can you attest to that? It doesn't seem slightly different at all for image quality?
@JordanMarsh0217
@JordanMarsh0217 4 жыл бұрын
@@cleverghostcinema Image quality as far as I've seen is equal between the 2 cameras. The extra megapixels comes in handy for cropping and printing (the cropping ability helps for what I'm using it for), and the IBIS is extremely awesome. But if you don't need the extra resolution and can live without the IBIS, either one of the 50's are pretty terrific. I've really been enjoying the 50r.

Great video Adam! I’m just about to send back a gfx100 that I’ve had on loan for a week now. Every word you say about it is exactly what i thought about it. I shoot a lat of landscape with my d850 and a long lens. Often over 300mm but I shoot interior and architecture for a living and with the gfx even though you have to slow down it made my work flow more efficient in the end. Feels a bit sad to send it back but I’m quite sure it won’t be the last time I have the gfx in my hand.

I can't afford it in this hard covid times and I am curious what that rumoured camera is that Fuji seems to launch in spring next year. Perhaps the 50S will get much cheaper than. I like that tilting viewfinder so much that I would prefer the S over the R... More important than gear: You showed us beautiful pictures here....

Hi Adam. I really love your photography and your channel. Reason for this comment is that I do have a more positive experience with this geared head of sunwayfoto. I bought this head last summer after years of annoying last movements in the ball heads I used. Which costed me a lot of time. Now, I can make really micro adjustments and I love that. So less cropping afterwards. I do agree that an L-bracket is a must. Keep on doing your awesome photography. Cheers from The Netherlands!

Hi. I noticed that you like your back LCD uncluttered with information, but you have that Touch Screen Mode indicator that says Off (to right off your LCD) showing. If you want to get rid of it, go to your: Menus / Wrench Icon / Screen Setup / Disp. Custom Setting / and uncheck Touch Screen Mode. Works on my Fuji X-H1 anyway. If you have custom commands set up on your Touch Screen when you swipe, they will still work.

I know I can subtract dehaze in isolated areas with the radial filter etc. Blah blah, I’m so curious what your workflow for fog is in post. Maybe someday you can do a tutorial or offer some advice? Hi Adam Great to see a landscape pro using the 100. I bit the bullet and pay my car loan money each month after trading in my 50th present, a 50s! My experience is that colour depth is richer on the 100 and the versatility of the extra resolution is a big positive. DR is , surprisingly, as wide if not a touch better. I adore the tilt EVF whether on or ( especially) off tripod. IBIS + seriously dampened shutter is a game changer in extending the ease of use when you don’t want to set up or carry the tripod when walking a long way into the mountains. Downside is the entire button /dial set-up. They are poor. Too small, too flimsy and just not easy to use in cold conditions. The body has acres of space so why give us two pimple size joysticks from the XT component tray instead of a decent lump as per Leica SL/ S joysticks ? Sadly, after one year I am in no doubt that outdoors the ergonomics of the 50S/ 50R are preferable. I do not see why they could not retain the exposure comp dial of the 50R. It’s my most used dial in the field. It isn’t plebeian. In the freezing cold it beats simultaneously cocking a thumb on a pimple size button and having to use a weak front dial. Image quality is , however, just downright exciting when printed big and this overshadows the rank controls.

As much as I'm attracted to the Fuji, how I use a camera, what I normally shoot, it's a huge over kill. Shoot, even my Z7 is over kill! When I got the Z7 I also looked at the 850 and quickly nixed it due to the weight. Which begs the question; have you had a chance to use a Z7 (and if you have, how it compares to the Fuji, for your shooting style).
@tallaganda83

I have a Z7, it’s nearly perfect but for a few things. I wish I could shoot longer than 30 seconds as max shutter. My Xe3 does 9 minutes. Another is I wish the multiple exposures saved in raw. Other than that it’s great. If I could add one thing in the rumoured Z8 it would be 16 bit colour. I have had a fair bit of banding when darkening skies. I know there are photoshop workarounds but would love a 16 bit option.

I came to that same conclusion. I use a Hasselblad X1D II 50c and it's perfect for me. That GFX 100 is definitely overkill though. I've come to the conclusion that if you're making money with print, it's worth it. If you're looking for quality, but not doing much more than the occasional print, 500px and insta, you can look at full frame just fine. Use the thousands of saved money on the body and those MF lenses for trips to get killer shots.

Hi Adam. Great video, as always. :) I just wanted to say that I really loved your very first and very last image. They were breathtaking. I hope to visit your neck of the woods some day. One question. In all your time shooting medium format, did you ever have a chance to try the Pentax, either film or digital? No one ever seems to talk about them in the medium format world, so I was just curious. Thanks. :) Paula from Maine

I owned a Pentax 6x7 briefly many years ago but found the depth of field very problematic so I went up to 4x5. The Pentax 645 was very popular at one time, especially with the wedding crowd..

@@QuietLightPhoto Interesting. Don't recall knowing anyone in the GTA that I had any contact through including PPOC. Prior to Hassy for most of the time, I used Kowa (tad soft but not bad for wedding images). I just bumped into this video and now wonder if you have used the digital Hassy medium format and opinion? Now the Loonies are pretty crazy. Tom above mentioned the Island -- you home stomping grounds?

Adam - you seem to do little to no contrast correction - Highlight Compression / Shadow Expansion etc, since you've been using the GFX 50 & now the GFX 100. The question is is that because the files match what you see with your eye straight out of camera or is it more that they look right aesthetically "correct" to you so I guess faithful reproduction vs aesthetic choice ? Thx
@QuietLightPhoto
@QuietLightPhoto 4 жыл бұрын
Well funny you should ask. Lately I have experimenting with straight Jpegs out of the camera and in many cases the images need little to no corrections in post processing. I do find the Fuji cameras to be very accurate with their colours and representation of what I am hoping to achieve. Of course I still shoot RAW and there are definitely exceptions.

Hey Adam, I shoot with a 5DS and the longer I have it, the more I like it. The thing is, who on social media is going to say that my photography has greatly improved if I switched to a medium format because I don't think there would be a discernible difference. I have done a lot of research and I'm struggling with spending $15k on another system plus maybe another 8-10k on new lenses. That money would be better spent on a commercial printer. So when push comes to shove, as much as I want to go to medium format for my landscape photography and studio work, who is going to notice ? Would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks mate, love the channel.
@AlexArmitage
@AlexArmitage 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not Adam so you might care less what I have to say BUT personally it matters most to you. You are going to notice. If your line of thought is, I'll only want this if people on a 5 inch screen will notice then you don't even need a 5DS. Will you enjoy the photos more? That's up to you. Also not saying to drop $20k on a new camera and system because I don't think that's going to improve your photography either. All I'm saying is, don't decide on what you want based on if people are going to be able to see the difference on instagram because that's a low bar. Will they see a difference in print? Will you see a difference in editing? Will you enjoy shooting more? To me those are more important questions.

No one is going to notice except you. I guess for me one of the things that matters the most is usability and the joy of using a specific camera. As I said in the video the price is a huge factor and for many probably seen as frivolous and perhaps a waste of money. However the same could be said in any items that we buy. I drive an old 1995 Mitsubishi Delica that many people would never sleep in as a camper but have no problem forking out $100 000 or more for an RV that I see as frivolous. The camera will not make me a better photographer and in many respects will make life a bit harder as the camera is heavy, but I will say that I enjoy photography more when I use larger format cameras over 35mm. I enjoy the process and I also love looking at all of the intricate details of a scene in an image. It's the process that I enjoy, the art of taking a photograph with a fine camera.

Yeah, that Camera would nice to have. But it´s still to expensive, for a ametaur person as me. But I I wonder if one really need a 100 Mpix Camera??. I mean, with a 50 Mpix (8272pxx6200px) you can blow-up Photos to 70 x 52 cm in 300dpi.You can even go up to 105 x 79 cm in 200dpi, which would be fine, since one would stand some meters from the Framed Image. Again there´s not much notable difference between an Image in 300 dpi versus a 200 dpi. Btw. Loved those Trees in your Images. So lovely ❤. One of those would be nice, as a Framed Image on a wall 👍

After many years I finally made a landscape photo just over a metre wide by 42 cms. This is from A3 prints placed together. Well I am an amateur, and I make my photos by stitching many shots from the little Sony APS-C sensor. The sensor of this FUJI with a crop factor of about 0.7 is four times as big as my A6500 Sony sensor. I would give some teeth for that medium frame, but I still would have the expense of making big prints. And I move around often, but I would still like to make big roll up canvases. Even Adam says most of his photos go just to the electronic screen

@@QuietLightPhoto Thank you, I have the larger Promediagear 424L (I am 6'5" tall). And was looking at the tall 3 series. I really like the Promedia 344L but wanted to look around. I looked at an FLM (nice, but I do like made in fair wage country when I can, and the new FLM's are from China). I have a first-gen really right stuff 33 that has been everywhere (but is a bit short as I get older), I have found that like the Promediagear slightly better than really right stuff (really no bad solution). I think you have tried about everything, what are your current thoughts on ~34mm leg tripods?. Thank you very much, I really enjoy your videos. More than once you mentioned "slowing down" your shooting. I bet you'll be shooting medium format film in the near future. Maybe a 6x6 SLR? or Medium format rangefinder? Pentax 67 and a few lenses. If you really want to slow down, start metering your pics. First image was my favorite, and nice job dodging and burning to soften the background and make the tree pop.
