I'm not sure why folk seem upset with the title. I, for one, often think that my images are crap until I sit on them for a while. And yes I often think about quitting photography. The only reason that I can see that folk are upset is that they came here to watch someone crash and burn; pretty sad, really. If you would like to complain, be sure to leave a comment here.

I don't know what they're on about... this is such a relatable title for the content. Culling is where I usually get these feelings of failure and wanting to quit. I have entire shoots I gave up on editing, not that they're bad photos, but I feel a sense of disappointment with myself and the results, and I don't look forward to arduous editing (unless I envisioned editing while taking the photo) so I totally get it!

I used the word 'fail' on a thumbnail and in a title recently. Big mistake. It seemed to give people the licence to say anything they liked about me and the video, mostly harsh and negative. It happened before when I used the phrase Brutally honest in a title & Thumbnail. It seems people are not really interested in reading descriptions or understanding WHY those words were used and the Irony, (which is what you were intending I think). However, I had the last laugh, literally and metaphorically because both videos have done really well. I have heard that YT prioritises controversy as a consequence. It's good for their business model.

8:32 Only the blue channel is over exposed, I think it's worth a go in LrC. 23:44 My Lumix S camera can shoot timelapes with no interval between frames. I would have made several images with the idea of blending later. This delays having to choose he exposure duration in the field, and may reduce noise.

Sad part about AI is that algorithm takes work of photographers and compose it in new generation. But yes I agree it's difference between real art of photography and Trash "art" of AI. Yes you can use AI to create nice photo for wall but it have zero meaning or story behind it. It's trash on wall.

It was really interesting to see you sort through and review an entire trip series. I always like seeing comparisons of multiple shots and not just before and after processing of one shot, though that will be great to see in the next video. Looking at multiple shots helps to learn about all aspects of photography but especially composition I think. The rock formations could make a gallery exhibit just by themselves! Gorgeous. And even if they don't go in a gallery, the memories and joy you get from them are priceless! Great workshop for the lucky participants!!

For me cropping is a very important aspect of photography. Why wouldn't you do it in camera?

@@QuietLightPhoto Because I think it wrong to make such a decision in the field. I think there may be some modest advantage in doing so with MF Fujifilm cameras, if I remember correctly which ever crop you choose, it adjusts to maximise the number of pixels in the resulting image. Nikon is the only manufacturer that does a hard crop to raw files, Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus/OM Systems, Lumix do not. I do sometimes crop in the field, but I know it's a soft crop and I can change my mind later. Certainly nothing worthy of a comment, "Oh, I should have cropped that" when reviewing. Also, in PP I can choose what's cropped. In the field, it's an area around the centre of the sensor. In PP, I could choose just the top half, or just the right two thirds.

Clearly mislabelled video as clickbait, as it should be “crop”. It was really interesting to see in the Lightroom opening shot the wide range of image crop sizes you are using in field including, notably, lots of 65:24 XPan (grrrr, very jealous.) I’m generally doing this in post - albeit having noted some in the field that might be 16:9. Now trying to figure out better ways of pre visualising 65:24 without buying a GFX system.

A number of beautiful images and seeing someone using Fujifilm, well, it gives me hope. I have an X-T1, X-T2 and X-H1. Living in Iowa Farm Country I have to travel several miles to capture different types of landscapes, which in the Spring and Summer is very enjoyable. Haven''t settled on LrC or other processing software, as I use two other packages, paying the usual subscriptions. Believe I have narrowed it down to two. Need to take a more serious look at Adobe, since I am paying for the Family Plan and look for some training videos. You love the rock patterns and for me, I love the old, dead trees in the woodlands. Love the Mississippi River and photograph that a lot with the barges going up and down the River. Photograph Historic Mills along our little Rivers and Streams.

I was in northern & central Patagonia in 2023. Not for photography -- I was hiking with friends -- but I still tried to fit some landscape shooting in. Good god, almost all of my photos from it are trash. I was rushed and scatterbrained whenever photography was an option. I don't have nearly the level of experience you have with photography, but I was still amazed how significantly my compositions and technical capabilities were degraded by the drowsiness of motion sickness medicine, exhaustion from constant hiking, and prioritization of sticking with friends instead of ditching them for landscape photography. And then, later in 2023, I left home briefly (~45 minutes) during a snowstorm and unexpectedly got my favorite photo of the year minutes from my front door. Beating myself up over this stuff as a hobbyist is hard at times; if landscape photography was my job I'd definitely struggle with being too hard on myself. I've been wondering if collaborative processing would help. Something like getting together with some other people interested in landscape photography every other week and sifting through RAWs, bouncing ideas off each other, etc. Get real-time feedback as each photo is being looked at in Lightroom for the first time. Anyways, thanks for the insight as usual.

Hi Adam, nice to see you working through your images of that trip. 2 years ago I sent an improvement idea to Fujifilm. From my point of view it would be nice, if Fujifilm gave us the option to insert automatically separation frame (may a black frame) at the beginning and the end of a bracketing series. In post this would make it easier in post. Additional they could give a the option of inserting a black frame manually via custom button. ;-) What do you think about this idea?

Very relatable honestly. I'm not one to have a single composition that I can sit on until the light is just right. I need options. I've sat on images for weeks or months before deciding if I like it or how I want to process it. My perspective being that I might be better with curation than composition. That in-camera cropping/composing feature is really nice, especially for panos which might otherwise be "hard to see". My old Nikon has none of that so all my images come to Lightroom as nasty 3:2s haha. It's nice that Lightroom reads those crops (while still being non destructive), but it's probably an even better tool in field to see differently and come up with new and interesting compositions.

I had to laugh earlier, because I started watching your video, then walked away to do other stuff. When I returned I could see a screen more or less identical to mine and I thought... 'Ooooh that image looks decent' Then I realised that it was still your video. Hmmmm. I also suffer with the malaise of disappointment when first downloading or looking at scans of negs. However, even if the images are crap, there's always a learning point or two. ps had my hands on a GFX recently, great camera, not for me. Loved the 65x24 pano mode.

I always learn a lot from your processing videos. I notice a very strong blue cast to the long exposure photos. Was it blue hour, or do your ND filters have a blue cast to them?

For your computer I think you need to add a m.2 page file Or just simply upgrade your memory and your hard drive something a little more of a 7500MB R/W and for your memory if you are still using ddr4 then I highly suggest going to 64GB @ 4400 or even 4600 mhz That's about the only two things I would suggest to upgrade RAM and hard drive

Horizon, never in the middle. Learned that from the film industry. Angle of photograph, go lower for better pics when shooting water, the water somehow makes the photo much better.

I usually “nurse” my images over months, sometimes more. It is amazing how time affects my taste and preferences for final editing. Let them simmer like a fine soup.
