Incredible. The one thing i like most about your videos is that you show the raw image before you show the final image. It does two things. First, it shows the importance of getting it right in camera when you take the shot. Second, it shows off the subtlety and nuance of your post-processing. You prove you don't have to go over the top with processing to have great images.

I have followed both you & Alex on social media for a number of years and to see you on a trip together was great. What an amazing location & I look foreward to seeing a book from AN on the Drakensberg sometime in the future. Must say in the week you were on this hike it looked you had some amazing conditions and this shows in the images you have presented us. One of the things I love about your work Adam is your processing is always to a minimun but always with a maximum effect - no doubt due to your skills in the field I would say. Great watch as always. atb Al

Great trip and shots. Other places you might like could be "The Garden Route", which has beautiful forests and coast, some of the Cape mountains like Baviaanskloof or mountains around Oudshoorn, and remote desert areas like Richtersveld.

Though many have spoken to this, I too, appreciate the raw file image prior to your edit. You do justice to the rendering of light, shadow and colour without over exaggerating and your cropping is well chosen. Thank you, Adam, for sharing such inspirational beauty.

As always really gorgeous photos. I also appreciate your "hiking/camping" to give us the views. While I can get around pretty well still at 76, my acrophobia limits what I can do at heights. My time in the military cured me of any desire to do camping except at the most civilized of areas. So, you doing all the hard work and showing us the results, is really great.

One of the things I love about your videos is seeing the raw images and then guessing how you're going to edit them. Bring up this or accentuate that, but often it is in how you crop them that is the most surprising and delightful. Thank you

Adam, this was a great video, the music choice was outstanding and fit the foggy, cloudy mood so well. The images were very nice, and some of the cliff edge photos triggered my vertigo so I had to hold on to my chair so I would not tip over. I am glad you did not mute the greens in the photos, seems like so many people are doing that now, and for me if it is green it should stay so in most photos but maybe that is just me.

Hats off to you Adam for carrying your full kit up there. Appreciate the effort to record the walk and then give us some lovely images along the way. The Drakensberg Mountains do look extraordinary, but not always the easiest place to photograph. As you say it is hard to give scale to your images in such a place. Personally, I would have been tempted to shoot monochrome more than colour in this environment particularly when you have a lot of mist and cloud and can take advantage of the strong contrast. Just as an aside, I noticed pretty much everyone except the guides were using walking poles. This must be northern hemisphere thing. I know they are said to have lots of benefits, but in my experience they are more a hindrance than a help in anything but open country. They just get in the way. If I take a pole, I take one only which can be useful on steep descents or in crossing fast flowing streams. But when you are scrambling up or down steep rocky gradients or moving through scrubby or thickly wooded terrain you generally want both hands free, not having to manage two poles. So I don't quite understand this two walking poles thing except in favourable situations.
@QuietLightPhoto
@QuietLightPhoto Жыл бұрын
If you want to carry heavy loads and still have your original knees when you reach 60 use poles. Poles are like tripods, a pain in the ass in some spots but a godsend in other situations such as going up and down hills. Scrambling up or down rocks just put them away, it's not a big deal.
@danevarkevisser4670
@danevarkevisser4670 Жыл бұрын
@@QuietLightPhoto I guess it is horses for courses and yes, if you have knee troubles I am sure they help. And I grant you a pole or stick is helpful on long slippery or uneven descents or as I say crossing fast moving streams, but this is more for balance. I am 62 and fortunately my knees are fine. I am more used to rougher and less open terrain where you want your hands to be free. Putting poles away means hitching them to the side of your backpack and you definitely don't want to do this if you are moving through thick undergrowth or vegetation. It is hell because they constantly get caught on things.
