VPRO Idents - The Ident Review

PLEASE NOTE - 0:17 to 1:03 has had it's original audio replaced Skip to 1:03 to bypass replaced audio Due to a copyright claim, I've had to replace the music for 45 seconds of the video. Because the replacing system KZbin offers is incredibly basic, it overlays any audio, not just music. So my usual opening 'Hello and welcome...' etc, had to go. This was the only way in which I could keep the video up and fully visible without completely deleting and re-uploading, which was the last thing I wanted to do. Hope you all understand. Other episodes of the Ident Review have been affected in a similar way, so any video that has this as the pinned comment will have replaced audio, and the timestamp as above from where you can enjoy the episode as intended

The sunglasses and lips idenst are adverts for the vpro asking viewers to support the vpro's unique content (by calling the phone numbers), or else we ll only see what the majority wants.

The V.P.R.O. Is not only innovative in terms of its idents of course, but through its programmes too. It sees its role as being to push the boundaries of radio and television and in this it is very sucessful. They do good work. PS ... in the sunglasses ident they are inviting viewers to become members/subscribers of the VPRO. PPS the music you can hear faintly in the background in the lips ident is “ Das Glühwürmchen “ by Paul Lincke. It’s on KZbin too.

They are still using ELO - Here is the News in 2024, usually with the visuals synchronised to the music. The only Dutch broadcaster to stick to their intro tune for 40 years. They used it on the radio a couple of months after the song came out, and it became their TV ident after they stopped trying to be weird on TV.

13:22 as a Dutch speaking person myself I think this "error" is just a technical difficulty card and there's nothing more than that. I'm not sure about the weird video effect maybe it's there to look cool or it could be some video gliching out.

It's not 'the V-pro', it's V-P-R-O (despite what the logo might suggest) - if you nose around a bit you'll find more idents (or 'headers' as the Dutch seem to call them) where you can hear the letters are distinct. Google Translate isn't perfect and some uses of 'het' in Dutch should be absorbed into the word they refer to in English.

“The Gong Man” and “The Flying Man” actuality wasn’t that bad, they kind of gave me SpingeBob vibes in a way, especially the fourth and “The Flying Man was kind of cool Darn, ”Error” and “Melting” caught me off guard, I was expecting a jumpscare and for “Melting”, I was expecting something like a 90s BBC 2 style ident, not… that bizarre sequence… 04:08 Yep, that DEFINITELY sounded like somebody squeezing out a giant poo, Darn, I guess he was REALLY constipated, (Gotta stop eatin’ that fast food…) or he was having a nightmare… actually it kind of sounded less like moaning and more like he was straining and struggling to carry a heavy object. Wow, whoever provided the sound for this ident must’ve wither had so much fun or felt really awkward recording For “Wavy” and “Spirals and Stripes”, WOW, they are SO CONSIDERATE to those who have epilepsy or are just sensitive to strobe lights and patterns… I was being sarcastic, I myself am sensitive to strobe lights and I got a headache after watching a SECOND on of those two idents, I had to skip them “Sunglasses” and “Lips” feel more like something you’d be MORE likely to see on a channel like Nickelodeon (Obviously with a few alterations) This would be a channel you wouldn’t want to tune into at 3am, but as weird as these indents are, I don’t hate them

Every public broadcaster in The Netherlands has a political or philosophical pillarisation. Only the Tros was created just for entertainment. The more paying members take a subscription to a channel and their paper-magazine, the more broadcast time they are allowed on one or more of the three Dutch public channels. And a-, b-, or c-status. Commercials were broadcasted only in between shows. Separately private commercial tv started in the end of the eighties.
