As I get older, I'm finding the whole idea of remakes changing things up a bit, making you re-learn the game like it was the first time a lot more welcoming, I know you said you didn't like it, but it was awesome watching you adapt and grow into the new gameplay! Brilliant video, Adam. Was originally going to watch this in several parts, but couldn't pry myself away from the screen! I will say, I remember on release there being a little bit of an uproar on social media over how the Hardcore mode is advertised for "RE4 veterans" - content creators and myself whose favourite game was the OG RE4 thought Hardcore was way too excessive for a first playthrough even having mastered the original, and Standard presented enough of a challenge owing to the game playing fairly differently (enemies not being able to be staggered as easily, etc. - this is even more true on the higher difficulties, as I'm sure you noticed). It's a shame it soured your first impressions of the game, but I'm glad it won you over in the end.

I used to study how they used narration and would apply that at times to Platinum Journey. Having you compare what I do to their masterpieces is a massive compliment. I also view new specials of The Grand Tour as an event - an evening of snacks and beers await me. The length of this ran away from me. It will be a while before an episode is this long again but I do like making the longer episodes. Always immensely proud of finishing them. I’m honestly blown away by your editing skills. Especially looking back to your first few Platinum Journeys. You Sir have come a very long way. I haven’t played the remake yet but Resident Evil 4 is definitely one of my all time favorite games and introduced me to the series as it was my first RE game. If you ever get a chance (and dont suffer from motion sickness) i highly recommend the VR version of the original RE4- its a brilliant way to re-experience the original game and makes you rethink a lot of combat encounters and switch up your gameplay style! First video I’ve seen from you, really stellar editing and video direction. RE4 has some of the best charm in any video game that has still not lost its fire. RE4 remake took away some of that charm but I feel what they added makes up for some of the disappointments, especially with separate ways tying a couple of those lost moments. It had to grow on me as well as I started in hardcore and stuck through which I regret. Though how I feel now after the platinum and some more time is I prefer remakes gameplay, it’s so addicting with the parry feature but can’t let go of the campfire feeling og gives me. I’m kinda settling with them being tied for me, think it’s kind of awesome I love both games and mostly for different reasons. Imo they captured lightning in a bottle twice. Anyways, lotta words lol, can’t wait to check out some more of your videos and see if you have any more of my favorite games

I always find these videos quite inspirational. In the past couple of years I've platinumed Dead Space 2, Bloodborne, beat TLOU on Grounded, and when I was really doubting I could do it I'd find myself watching the platinum journey for that game, then I'd get back to it. Currently about 65% of the way to platinuming Dark Souls 3.

RE4 Remake is such a wild ride. I like the fact that it plays so differently to the original. Like you, I am a huge fan of RE4 and I have played it an insane amount of times since its release so it was a change of pace to feel like a "noob" and have to relearn how to play this game. As long as the og is available everywhere as well, I don't mind the different approach to the gameplay (and that includes the knife breaking)

What I love about your videos is that you know how to tell a story in an interesting way. I love watching the highs and lows, most «I got the Platinum in xyz» videos fail at that task. And you answered the question you asked in the beginning - fantastic. (I watched a video the other day, where the guy asked a question in the beginning, and forgot to answered at the end. So frustrating. Your story-telling and editing are a huge inspiration for my own videos. I wasn’t a fan of the OG RE4 (never played it actually), and there was too many frustrating moments for a great game, but I enjoyed my time with RE4 Remake quite a bit. These remakes are fun games.

@@Rembrandtrules yes, he beat professional mode with an s plus, but because he used a bonus weapon, he wasn’t able to unlock the hand cannon, so he can use the cat ears for unlimited ammo for something like the shot gun.

I’m really enjoying the story telling you put into these. I’m starting to see it evolve a lot more. A lot of different people on KZbin do platinum videos and show the struggles and pain and it’s really surface level but here you can see more about how you’re thinking and how you tackle situations and overtime we the viewer are growing with you almost like we’re playing the game from beginning to end with you like we were with you the whole way. Sorry if this got pretty long but it’s just something that you don’t see in this genre on KZbin for platinum trophy videos as much

Trying different approaches, finding some success, often failure, makes it all the more satisfying when a difficult section is beaten - the cabin in this episode for example. You wasn't a fan of it to begone with and over time playing it, you grew to love it. That's not something I hear often but has changed my opinion especially with resident evil 4. It's what's kept me from playing it myself as I worried it wouldn't do the game justice, but I'm glad to see it has and hopefully get to play it in the future, so thank you for talking about that in your video 😊

My friend and I were talking a few days before Adam announced the release date for this episode. We were saying that we felt it was kinda moving away from why we first started watching. This episode brought me right back to why I love this channel. The storytelling by Adam through the entire episode, the elation and despair, culminating in one of the best episodes on this whole platform. @@AdamMcDermott one of the many reasons we enjoyed your content so much is because you represent the everyday player. The trials and tribulations you have faced with many difficult platinums. But more recently it felt like the videos while expertly edited and narrated, the games didn't present much of a challenge to you. Of course always playing difficult games can be draining but we love to see you triumph over games such as Bloodborne, Sekiro, GoW (2018) and (perhaps my favorites) Modern Warfare 1 and 2. I think overall we just like to see you win when it seemed that you may not. On a separate note, loving the RE series and very much hoping it make it all the way to RE7 and RE8

@@dwunder3894 Thank you for the detailed response. I understand what you are saying. As you mentioned, I can't do difficult games all the time but I do like the occasional challenge. Think I average 1-2 challenging games per year. They take a lot out of me and I want to be around for the long run. Witcher 3 was supposed to be a challenge but the hardest difficulty was fine for me so I had to rethink the approach. Elden Ring is planned for later this year. I'm sure that will have plenty of highs and lows. Cheers. I'm enjoying making the RE videos. I do indeed plan on making it to RE8, by then RE9 is probably be out. The transition from RE4 to RE4R reminded me a lot of me going from Ninja Gaiden Black to Ninja Gaiden II. I was having a bad time trying to play the newer game like the original. But once I let go of that and came in as a blank slate, I had a much more enjoyable experience

I had the same terrible experience u had when I tried it when I got it for Christmas, I wanna play it but since I never played RE ever it’s really jarring all the mechanics you have to learn! You know I'll level with you Adam, The changes can definitely feel like whiplash. Honestly though this remake for me is a 10 out of 10. I still absolutely love the original but I think this is neck and neck with it. For different reasons obviously. But I totally get why every change didn't work for ya. 👍
