You wrote what you did as if anyone can just pretend to be a well-known person and be able to fire off the hip at this level of quality the entire time. I think the mere existence of SNL proves that this is clearly not the case. Most of the people that have ever done this kind of thing pale in comparison to what Adam Ray is capable of. And it isn't like this was some one-off night where he hit it out of the park; this is him EVERY time he does the Dr. Phil character. He's got the combination of a pretty solid vocal impression (obviously a bit hyperbolic in some ways, but whatever), a fairly convincing getup, and the wit to engage with other comedians and random people for hours on end and be entertaining the whole time. This isn't something that just anyone can do, regardless of whether they're a professional or not.

I still remember the thumbnail to the first Dr. Phil kill tony and rolling my eyes because I'de never seen adam do it and thought it would be a cringe gimmick. Then it turns out to be my favorite episode of all time and I've gone back and watched it probably 5 more times since which is rare. Another great appearance!

The Cool Runnings joke got me good. I saw that movie in the theater when I was a kid, when it was originally released. He’s fine tuned the persona, and uses his quick wit & improv skills to make it all work for him. He puts on a clinic for how to be hilarious, and not break character. That in itself is a super power, considering all the silly & ridiculous stuff he says. Good to see him trending upwards, and being noticed by stand up comedy fans, podcast hosts & guests, and his fellow comedians. Oh, and the same, for Nikki Glaser.
