The Snake that leaves The Boss' body I think represents Jack's naivety and innocence leaving forever. Upon killing his mentor and best friend simply to help men in suits he no longer had any faith in Governments and their regard for their soldiers lives. In that moment his identity of "Snake" slipped off into the undergrowth, never to be seen again. From that moment onwards, he was Big Boss.
@Tehmewmew8 жыл бұрын
+Richard The Lionheart I don't think it had anything to do with Snake. The Boss had just referenced the snake-shaped scar in association with the pain she felt slithering through her body. My interpretation was that the pain that she had carried within was now leaving her.

Naked Snake didn't take on the mantle of Big Boss until after Peace Walker, when he finally faced his betrayal at the hands of the Boss. And even this didn't last long. This must be the greatest boss ever in gaming as far as characterization goes. How often do you end up fighting someone you really don't want to kill in games? Originally she only planned on stealing the Philsophers legacy by acting as a traitor to America but everything changed the moment Volgin fired that portable nuke at OKB-754. Once that happened; the CIA wanted her killed to clear their name for fear attention would be drawn to them.... She ended up taking the blame for everything; even Volgin's actions. It's no wonder Big Boss was so traumatized by all this. :(
@collegebro859 жыл бұрын
How easily disposed of we all are when those in power wanna save face...this series really opened my eyes to the world around us!
@sekkuar8 жыл бұрын
+Damocles178 There's even more behind all that... CIA had not yet decided to kill The Boss to save themselves, the ones who pushed them to that direction was Khrushchev. "If she's really a traitor, prove it". But there's even more behind the scenes. As The Boss herself mentions, The Philosophers are behind every single conflict and are the ones who holds real power in their countries. Since they were divided, all three of them wanted to get the whole amount of the legacy for themselves. I'm not very sure, but it sounds like China was cheated when they split the money, USSR got half and US got half, and both of them were planing on getting the whole thing for themselves. It just so happened they elected The Boss, the last descendant of the original Philosophers to do their dirty work for them, and when all went to shit, she also got elected to be disposed to cover up everything. But ultimate, yes, this whole thing is just a lesson on how human life has no value for those who have (or seek) power. No matter how high up the ranks someone is (such as the legendary Boss herself), they are all disposable as soon as it's convenient.
@NakedSnake18368 жыл бұрын

Eva's tape at the end of MGS3 says "Her memory, her debriefing...will endure only in your heart." Snake is the character we, the players control, he's the bridge between us and the world of Metal Gear. So Eva saying that the Boss' memory, patriotism and her Will exists in Snake's heart is like she's saying that to US the players who finished the game. The Boss won't just live on in Snake, but in ALL OF US.

The Boss was a Soldier, an Agent, and an Astronaut. After her death, a Soldier and an Agent tried to interpret her will and each failed miserably, throwing the world into endless violence. I myself did not understand her will... until I learned that she was also an astronaut. Her will became clear to me instantly. Every Astronaut and Cosmonaut humanity sent up into space... came back different. They instantly understood the big picture, and forgot their petty squabbles overnight. We even give this phenomenon a name: the overview effect. It's a shame space travel is so expensive. Every human should see our world from space. The second we go there, I will guarantee you we will instantly understand the Boss's Will.

Do you ever realize how frightening would this scenario be in real life? You finish off your own mentor, and watch how the Stars of Bethelem go from pure white to a blood red color in reaction to your mentor's death and then see her scars slither away from her body and borrow into the ground.. That's some supernatural shit right there.

Fuck dude. I don't think anything in a game has ever hit me as hard as that moment when I realized the game was going to make me pull the trigger. They could have easily made it part of the cutscene, but no. That one simple design choice and I BECAME snake in that instant. I felt his emotions. I just kept waiting, hoping that if I waited long enough that I something would happen and I wouldn't have to kill Boss, MY Boss. But I realized, probably just as Snake did, that I had no choice. My only option was to kill her. This scene is a flawless masterpiece and it still gets me emotional to this day.

12:25 is a moment that always stands out to me about this scene. Throughout the past two games, we had characters breaking into monologues multiple times, and while many of them were used to expand their characterizations, explain their motivations, or diageticallly discuss the themes lf the game, there was always a sense of "why not just do it more succinctly? Do we really need to listen to this for over ten minutes?" on the part of the player. Here, though, we are provided a reason for the Boss' monologue: she wants to express herself and reflect on her life up to this point. It’s a kind of self-eulogy on her part, ending with her thanking Jack, and by extension the player, for listening to her show her true self for what may be the first and final time in her life, now ready to face her death with the bravery of a true soldier. It’s a big part of why this moment is one of the best scenes in the MGS franchise.

What's with the Spanish subtitles? I don't know if you realize it, but the Spanish subtitles for this game are terrible and sometimes they don't even match the intent of a particular phrase. This translation screams for a revision!

AdamSpencer87 Don't get me wrong, I love this moment in the game and I'm grateful for the upload, but the Spanish translation for Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater are the reason why I don't ever recommend MGS to people in my country. I've yet to understand how they could've fucked it up so bad, especially taking into account how accurate the first MGS translation was. Well, except for the ending where Spanish Naomi ruins the whole message of the game by stating that: "Uno debe aceptar estar encadenado al destino, ser gobernado por tus genes". Hopefully, sometime in the future games (as books) will enjoy of translation revisions for repackaging purposes. One can only hope!
@Thundernoob889 жыл бұрын
Juan Bertero Can you show any more examples of the bad spanish translation? Im honestly curious lol
@asnakeneverdies9 жыл бұрын
Thundernoob88 2:50 "Piénsalo bien... cuando estaba a cargo de los Cobras, ." | That last part translates to "America and Russia were fighting against each other" when it actually should say: "...América y Rusia luchaban juntos." This is a disastrous mistake because it destroys the whole intent of that line, the whole idea becomes confusing as the dialog starts contradicting itself and the message of the game is completely and utterly lost. I don't know about other Indo-European MGS translations, but for the Spanish one there are lots of examples even worst than this one. I encourage you to look them up for yourself, because even if you posses only a basic understanding of the language you'll surely spot them as they are abhorrently obvious!
