Well, if adaptive cruise control works well in heavy traffic, then it should be a breeze to use in light to moderate traffic. I like how the car is able to brake and accelerate itself.

I also find ACC terrifying. I've used it on San Francisco Bay Area freeways in rush hour traffic. The problem is twofold: 1. Other stupid drivers around you who will cut you off and drive like idiots. The system only measures the distance between you and the car in front of you and doesn't take into account the crazy guy in the lane next to you that is about to recreate a stunt from the move The Fast and The Furious. 2. My system brakes late as well. Sometimes so late that my CMBS activates and flashes amber warning lights in my HUD, which is scary.

Of course the system will keep a legal distance between you and the car in front of you. Unfortunately this will entice impatient drivers in the next lane to cut you off to try to get ahead making you stop like crazy. I guess you can install a dash cam for the courts....

I wonder if the adaptive CC on the Volvo XC60 which also has City Safety will work good in such heavy traffic. In theory, even if the CC fails to stop you in a case of a more emergency braking in front of you, the City Safety system should. Still, I would rather use that in highways or country roads rather than in the city simply because if someone sneaks in front of your car from another lane, the system may not react on time or simply over react and get you tailgated by the car behind you. A human would simply brake just a bit to let enough space for that car moving in, but the CC system might decide to break you fully or more aggressively, which drivers behind you wont be anticipating.

Once you trust the system it is wonderful. However, a few times traffic in front of the car in front of us came to a hard stop, which causes the system to delay a bit... that's when it gets nerve wracking.

Great! I had the chance to try it some months ago in a Volvo and like this Subaru it goes all the way down to dead stop and (without any confirmation button) starts itself again when the guy in front moves on. Wonderful feature! B-) @Adrian Z: In the Volvo one can adjust the range in three steps, I think...

You can. There are three stages of distance.

Scary indeed. I wish you can adjust the minimum distance between the 2 cars.

Some advice from someone who lives to follow automotive journalist reviews, Chris Harris On Cars, Ignition from Motor Trend etc... I suggest you guys sign up with FullScreen advertising network that you can check out on The Smoking Tire Cadillac ATS review. It would be a substantial boost in your channel's subscription # and throw links in your social networks in the description.

I travel a lot and I wonder if you can just sleep through the night in the interstate hwy and turn on adaptive cruise.. certainly illegal and maybe not safe but if technology work this well.. should be ok for 3-4 power nap eh?
@Keithguinn979 жыл бұрын
You still have to control the wheel though so I doubt that would work

Also please do most of your reviews on tuner cars please, theres enough people on the KZbins who do the same of the same too much of the time, BBI Autosport's pretty big, rent an R8 V10 with a stick and mention the changes in the package.
