So many younger sisters without any say married their brother in laws under similar circumstances. My grandmother was only 16 when she had to marry her brother in law when her own elder sister died at delivery of her baby. who was also only 18 or 19 years old. My grandmother had no say. She had to marry so she could take care of her newborn nephew who just lost his mom at birth. Today women have some say and some voice, still the majority are left to make compromises and sacrifices. All of it is very brutal realities of life. So though we make think this character is being selfish, she is actually traumatized by the shock. She never got to grieve the death of her sister and all her own dreams crashed down in a moment. Of course she will loose her mind. It is not her fault to blame when she reacts like this.

However, I do think the conversation everyone is having about this is a little strange. Yes, life is for the living, but there's no need to forget the dead or the past. Just think of it as doing something in honor of those who are no longer there. If Sobia were alive she would be a wife and mother to Rehan and Noor. But she's gone. Her legacy lives on through them. Someone who loves her is therefore the natural choice to protect and continue her legacy. It's not about forgetting her or even replacing her. It's about carrying forward her memory and making new ones in her honor.
