nice board. Many thanks for your channel I love it.

I was watching one of your older videos an saw that you had a rare Philips N1520. I would like to see you doing some work on that one.A very interesting machine!😀
@video99coukАй бұрын
That would be a lot of work, but yes it's a rare one.
@mikaelgranquist821Ай бұрын
@@video99couk Yes, a lot of work, and many episodes!😄

It seems to me that the board can be made way smaller even with the same parts, and much smaller still with surface-mount parts (not really difficult to work with)
@video99coukАй бұрын
Yes it could have been made a bit smaller. But there's plenty of room on the N1502 and N1700 machines, and sufficient room even in the SVR4004.

NOT everyone can solder SMDs without overheating the components. There are also components that are ONLY suitable for industrial soldering.
@whaka54000Ай бұрын
it was done with VCR in mind, a real chunky machine where this pcb will look like a midget inside, incidentally it can also be used in SVR but it wasn't meant for initially. this pcb also wasn't mean to become a design challenge. there's no real point to make it smaller or use of smd components, this is totally pointless.
@frankowalker4662Ай бұрын
Nice. But on my 1700 I just tapped the input to the RF can for video and the opamp for the sound. (?)
@video99coukАй бұрын
There is a video input to the modulator but it's not a normal level and signal impedance. You might be able to use it on some systems, but usually it will give a terrible picture. The audio is OK though.
@frankowalker4662Ай бұрын
@@video99couk I must have got lucky with the monitor I used. LOL. It was a Philips, so maybe that had something to do with it. 🤔

At 7:37 isn't that the same type of cap that went leaky in that previous troubleshooting video?
@video99coukАй бұрын
Yes it is. There are dozens of those in the machine.

They were really helpful actually, they came up with the v-groove idea to make the boards split if required.

Does anyone have a solution for audio/video inputs?
@video99coukАй бұрын
Trickier. For the N1502 you could replicate the circuits used on the N1512, and presumably something similar can be done with the N1700. Then for the SVR4004, there was an AV variant with inputs and outputs. But it would be quite challenging to do on strip board.

Replied. I now can sell a few more as I've ordered another batch.

Even worse I’ve commented before the video ended. “ I’ve sell some to recover the costs “ this is how you really are deep inside Colin ? This level ? To recover cost ?! For real. They ware free sponsored pcs !!!
@video99coukАй бұрын
No they were not, I paid for the PCBs. Why do you think otherwise?
@MrBetaByteАй бұрын
@123audio8 A lot of work went in to these boards and I know as I was developing something similar but I've bought two and the price is super low considering all that went into these and will enable me to easily upgrade my machines. Colin is also self-employed and would be very justified in making some profit on these. It's like saying Apple are wrong and should be selling an iPad 10th gen for $112...

Pcb way drivers viewers away. This my first dislike to your channel and it’s just for the forced “ cable tv “ forced add. I do understand they may sponsor the video, but what you and other creators fail to realize: You all spam us with pcb way. Worse than cable guy episode, so bad if I ever need a pcb design I use jlpcb or any other service. Have a thought on this and also keep in mind that KZbin premium don’t gets rid of unwanted sponsored bollo*

I've seen those fake cable devices on other channels too. Creators don't get any control over the ads which KZbin put out. It's KZbin who should not be accepting ads for fake products. Regarding PCB Way, they were just the supplier I ordered the boards from. I haven't spammed anyone. I bought 20 boards for £50 and sold 10 of them for £5 each to offset the cost. Then I have to do the packaging and paperwork, including customs forms due to Brexit for overseas ones. And the payments all go through the accountant for tax. But I'm doing all that not for a profit but to help the community get these PCBs. We're working on a version 1.1 board with some enhancements and I'll probably buy one more batch.

It was obviously not sponsored, he would have been reading their script for two minutes and showing their website pages if it was. And JLCpcb sponsor a lot of channels too. Anyway if sponsor segments bother you (they bother me a LOT), use Sponsorblock.
