Plant crocosmia with other late summer flowering perennials such as dahlias, rudbeckia, echinacea, asters and sedum for a gorgeous late season display. You can also plant them between shrubs such as hydrangeas and fuchsias which will flower at the same time to give you lots of colour.
Best in a sunny position. My front garden is east facing so part sun and they flower OK but they are not especially floriferous.
There are different cultivars of crocosmia in shades of orange, yellow or red. Crocosmia 'Lucifer' is a wonderful tall, red crocosmia which is best at the back of the border.
It's normally too hot and dry to plant in the ground in July but the weather has been relatively cool and wet this week so it's OK to plant container grown crocosmia in your borders at the moment. Keep an eye on the watering as the weather can quickly change.
