As a gas fireplace technician, that is not the way you want to do that and you should make sure you didn’t throw any into the pilot, the little scraps were the appropriate amount so you don’t get delayed ignition or sooting which could go up the vent and stain your siding

You can get same effect by grabbing a handful of it, squeezing it til it’s hard, then use a small brush to brush ember shavings in a pile and you won’t have any chance of delayed ignition with that

thanks for the feedback, I did not put any on the pilot. I assumed that would be a bad idea to be placed over a flame that is constant.

Im new to this had a pellet stove. I ordered a empire gas stove . Im thinking stay free of the pilot and lay small dime size amount next to the port holes am I correct? Thx

Howdy, as a gas fireplace technician I am wondering if you could help me answer a question that I cannot find the answer to on Google. I just bought a used gas fireplace from my buddy, I know it works. He bought a house that had this gas fireplace with mantle in the basement. I googled what looked like the model number and it came up with DESA and I couldn't find anything as far as the actual fireplace model. I like to find out how much the original purchase was. All that to say, it's got super light fake logs. Last gas fireplace I installed was an empire it had heavy fake logs that felt correct. This fireplace that I just bought the logs are very light in weight. I am unfamiliar with them. Can you tell me what kind they are? Also with this burner set it seems I have nowhere to put glowing embers, although I would really like that effect. Which I did get to do with my empire in the last house. Thank you for your time.

I was always told not to block the orifices of the gas flames coming out..But putting these directly on the flame of a gas fireplace is ok?

You are NOT suppose place embers over the gas holes. Ask any log set technician. Placing them over the holes causes poor combustion especially for vent free log sets.

only put in the front do not put the embers in the middle of the logs
