Hi Angela, your batik using wax is just so beautiful. I like the way you had used brown and orange in your work. Splendid ! I have done some t-shirt painting with fabric paints. I am going to attempt batik painting after seeing your work.

This is an amazing project! I think the explanation is so clear and everyone can follow the instructions easily. Thank you Angela for sharing.

do you wash the fabric once it is finished, or set the dye permanently?

Your video is very good and has inspired my desire to delve into the art of batiking. Thank you

Hi! Lovely work! How do you prepare your dye? Do you use salt or sodium carbonate? Thanks!

This video isn't for a beginning teacher. What type of material? Why did you thicken the colors and with what medium?
@angeladavidson10273 ай бұрын
I used a cotton muslin for fabric. I thicken the dye so it will go on like a paint rather than a liquid

What kind of wax or wax mixture do you use?
@AddArtist647 жыл бұрын
I used a paraffin/Bees Wax mixture. I found that pure bees wax was too hard and would crack too much. A mixture worked well.

Impressive lesson, really informative. Two advises, though: have a top view camera, and show the final result of your work. I was like "and what's the outcome???". Anyhow, well done!

CAN YOU COLOR THE WAX FOR OTHER COLORS?

Hi Angela, at the end can the wax be removed by boiling in water instead of using an iron? Thanks!
@AddArtist647 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. I sometimes find that I lose some color from the dye when I put it in boiling water.

Thanks for a great tutorial! I'm wanting to try this with my high school art class. What kind of wax do you use? And do you need to fix the dye with anything (soda ash, etc)?
@AddArtist647 жыл бұрын
I used a batik wax that is a mix of Paraffin and bees wax. I added soda ash to the dye mixture with some alum and/or sodium alganate (which thickens the dye)
@martituck31247 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response! Do you just add the soda ash and alum into your jars with the dye? And what are the proportions?
@AddArtist647 жыл бұрын
I would often mix the dye in a 16 oz plastic jar with a screw on lid. I would use approx 1-2 tsp of dye, 1 Tbls of soda ash and 1/4-1/2 tsp of sodium Alginate dye thickener. You can adjust add more dye if you need a richer color. A small amount of thickener works well - more can be added as needed. DharmaTradingCo may have instructions on their website.

They do last a few weeks.. If they lose intensity, you can easily mix up a fresh amount.

My dyes wont spread. They are weak and not very reactice. Im using procion, what could i be doing wrong?
@AddArtist646 жыл бұрын
I do use a nice concentration of dye with water (about a tsp of procion dye in a 28oz jar) and a tiny amount of the Sodium Alginate as a thickener. If the dye has been sitting for a few weeks and is less saturated, I will add a little more dye to it or make a fresh batch.

Thank you so much, I have been looking for this technique that I learned in high school. So grateful! Please I need to know...What kind of fabric are you using? 100% cotton or something special? Thanks again Angela!
@AddArtist647 жыл бұрын
I use a 100% cotton Muslin fabric. I do like the White Kona Muslin as it is a little heavier. I have used the lighter weight muslin as well. Wash it before using it. There is often sizing on fabric that should be washed away. The dye will adhere better.

I am not sure. I do know that in the US you can get them at Dharma Trading Co. or Blick Art Materials. I am not sure if they ship to the UK. they are an Indonesian art form and you would think that you could get them somewhere.
