A review of the small 25cm 2mm circular sock needle made by Addi. My personal thoughts on the plus and minus points of using it to make small items in the round.

Oh dear, I would need to try my sock on before I get to turning the heel. I do like the way your knitting stays smooth, no gaps you get when using the magic loop method, and that the short length of the unit is easily handled. Using the magic loop method I tend to get tired of that switching and pulling the needle through. I don't know, I'm torn lol You also have people who wouldn't trade their DPN's for anything. Thank you for an excellent demo, all the pros and cons were clear and helpful!! I would not have thought of trying these but now I'm "musing" about it. Blessings to you!!

I agree Carol, trying them on as you go is really good. I found that I only needed to put about 20 stitches onto a spare needle to be able to try them on so not too difficult :)

Thank you for explaining and showing this so clearly. I've never knitted a sock in my life but I want to and have bought these to try. Experienced knitter, just not in socks. This was helpful. Think I might get a couple of backups though just in case lol

Good luck! I have to start mine on circular needles, moving the stitches onto the Addi once the toe is done.

I've been looking at this needle and not able to decide...I have now thanks to your review. Been using Chiaogoo 9inch as well as Magic loop. Looks like the benefit overrides the cons. Many thanks again. 🎄🎄

Really glad it helped you decide Jen :)

I also find these awesome for starting hats/beanies! I love them! Perfect for continental knitting

Thanks for this video. I just bought 2.5 and a 3 mm of this needle based on your explanation. I was using another well-known brand's 2.25 mm for the same purpose, however it was so problematic to transfer the stitches from the loop onto the needle. Yarn frequently got stuck on the loop, it wasn't a smooth knitting. And knitters know that it is the most torturous thing for a knitter :)

Oh yes, really dislike having to force stitches over the bump! Enjoy your new needles 🙂

I would say, it probably is more comfortable for continental knitters, hence I would love to try it! ❣️🌹

I use a tiny 9 in circular and I can try mine on easily. It doesn't seem like you could, but it works 😊 the only downside I've come across is not being able to do 2 at a time. Other than that I love it.

I bought this 25cm Addi needle all 9 sizes and the 25cm KnitPro/Knitter's Pride with it's 11 sizes. For thicker yarns I like these well enough, the longer needle make for more comfortable fiddly knitting. On the other hand I do love sharp needles so the KnitPros are wonderful and way cheaper than Chiaogoo's or Hiya Hiyas. You just have to get used to handling the 2"/5cm size tips, beats magic loop for me! Used alone they will be uncomfortable for larger hands. I bought 3 of the each size so I have a sort of Addi Flexiflips/Crazy Trios!!! It's cheaper and you can use them for other projects. Thank you for the great review!

Just trying these out for the first time, new to sock making and seem a bit hooked, my main comment is sliding the stitches along, probably better as time goes by. Yes I do need to slightly change my hand position, also my tension has tightened.

Yes the sliding of stitches does get easier the longer your sock gets. Good luck 😊

great review. i just purchased 2 so i can get started on 2 pairs. your sock looks pretty. What yarn were you using?
@PookieDoodleCrafts6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Yasmin. I'm loving my sock needle. The yarn I used in the video was Stylecraft 'Head Over Heels'. It's nice yarn but a little expensive for me at over £6 for 100g- that was in Dec 2017 (this was at a local craft shop so might be cheaper online). I'm making some more socks at the moment and using Drops Fabel, it is lovely yarn and cost £2.80 for 100g so a big difference.

I love mine, it's worth persevering if it makes your finger ache at first, you soon get used to it. :)

Great review, thank you for your video. Question: I've noticed that the mm size rating is different from the mm/US size knitting needles for sock by .25 mm. Does this make a difference in the size you're knitting?
@PookieDoodleCrafts5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I think it would be worth you doing a piece of knitting to check your tension matches that of the pattern you plan to do because it never matters what size needles you use, different people knit to different tensions, so you adjust the size of needle to get the correct tension as suggested on the pattern. Although .25mm is a very small amount as a measurement it probably would make a difference to size of finished work on such small needles and fine yarn. Hope that helps. :)

I love to work with that needle, but I have some problems with the purls.
@PookieDoodleCrafts4 жыл бұрын
Yes I find the same, I think it is because doing purls means you have the short side/long side of the needles swapped around

What if we used TWO needles at a time? It would be like knitting on three or four needles... Just a thought.🌹❣️
@PookieDoodleCrafts3 жыл бұрын
It would be worth a try but one needle is smaller than the other (in length) might be tricky to hold.

I cannot find any beginner sock patterns for these needles . Do you happen to have one ? Much appreciated
@PookieDoodleCrafts4 жыл бұрын
I never found a full pattern using just the Addi Sock Wonder needle. I used knitfreedom.com/free-patterns/socks/ pattern and began on normal needles as per their tutorial/pattern then once I was past the toe section I transferred the stitches to the Addi needle and finished them on there. Hope that helps.
