That was a great vid! I learned a ton, though I would have like to see you rig the weight to the setup. Also, a quick display of what you feel the proper rod action looks like when the flasher is running perfect takes the guesswork out of it for us. Many thanks!

Great information Cameron! I think I’ve watched this video at least three times since it dropped and now that were getting some rain I am going to try this in the Siletz from a kayak. If I manage to hook up, not sure how landing one will go, but finding out will be a good problem to have. Thanks for the awesome instructional content!

I troll from a kayak on the Siuslaw every year. My first salmon from the kayak was really hard to land because the pole bend + length of the trolling gear didn't allow me to pull him close enough to net. I don't use 360 flashers anymore because I feel I need to long of a bumper/leader and the amount of drag it causes. The shortbus triangle flashers have low drag and produce well for me.

I would love to see a tutorial like this but using divers (Deep Six) in Puget Sound. I have been doing ok but know that I could do better and being new to salmon fishing and being limited by the current vessel I have (speed boat, nowhere to put down riggers), I would love get some more advise on using divers as I have searched and searched and can't find much info or any videos on what works best, IE length, length, speed type stuff. Keep doing what your doing! Guys like me need it!

😂😂 well I troll with normal 12 flashers out in the real ocean and it does great. I think the “short-bus” flashers and cut plugs are good for Columbia usually

@renownriverspnw53142 жыл бұрын
@@huntergates5304 time to time I do but the difference it makes is actually miniscule for the fish is usually brought in by the flasher. Just use a UV hootchie or spoon & fish it in low light conditions! Will do great if going through schools

I get using heavy leader for abrasion, but I don''t understand using a 15-30lb or 20-40lb rod and then use 50-60lb mainline and 50lb leader. Wouldn't that put extra strain on equipment? Just asking for my sanity
@littlegoobie2 жыл бұрын
In my experience, using too thin of a main line ends up in too many breakoffs. Gear takes a beating when trolling, line rubs on everything from the hull to other equipment. I have 2 other reasons to use 30-40 MONO mainline on the reels. I don't like how braid gets tangled up when it goes slack on deck or slaps around a net or whatever. The 2nd reason is I use downriggers and anything less than #30 mono frequently comes unclipped when debris, jellyfish, etc drags on the line. Braid has less belly because it's a smaller diameter drag in the water, but there are way too many disadvantages to keep using it.

Great video guys! I love the live sonar. I've noticed how much it raises my awareness of where we are *really* at in the water column when trolling. Question: What kind of distance are you getting with your Humminbird live sonar? I have the Lowrance Active Target and in the salt it really peters out 100' or so.

It's pretty random and it depends on the lure's own action. If it's too far, the dodger will still draw in fish, but the lure won't take much action from it. Line also gets knicked and cut during use so it'll change as you retie.

I was out trolling not the Columbia today, trolling 360s for the first time l, like 20-30 feet of water fishing 1-2 ounces of lead and we could barely get the flashers under the surface, more lead? Kinda sketched about going too heavy as there’s a few shallow spots with snags. Not really sure what I was doing wrong but didn’t catch shit for salmon. Got a little smallmouth out of a log jam though! Tight lines
