I've been wondering about the "don't set the hook" thing. I've only been fishing for trout for a few weeks now, and I've noticed a lot of missed hookups. I was wondering if my old habits of southern fishing were holding me back. I'm not a big ol' swing-for-the-fences bass hook setter, but I am used to giving it a little something. I have _caught_ a ton of trout already, but I've also missed a ton.

Thank the creator for this video! Lol! Just got back from the snow show in Puyallup and 100% needed this! Try the "rag" version of this challenge! It's always surprising that there is usually one dummy that'll grab the R.A.G. 🤣🤘
@Acribus12 жыл бұрын
What'a the R.a.g?
@fvdeddrift2 жыл бұрын
@@Acribus1 it's Rad As it Gets when it comes to fishing gear! A rag is an "old timey" rig that works well in really snaggy spots. All a rag is... A piece of 3/8" foam backer rod(for window installation) and your favorite colors of yarn pulled through from the side. The classic "seeker" pattern for this rig is white rod with orange, pink, and chartreuse yarn. Called the clown fart. But gawldang, the rag works! I promise you! Even in low, clear, heavily pressured areas. The rag'll get em!
@Acribus12 жыл бұрын
@@fvdeddrift Thanks for the answer 😁. I remember looking through my dad's steelheading tackle box as a kid and seeing those now. Might have to try them out some time.
@fvdeddrift2 жыл бұрын
@@Acribus1 YES! Our dad's definitely know what rags are! And damnit... I wish Northwest Fishing Forum was still a thing. My posts from a decade ago are loaded with rag fishing pics! Lol! They still work and they keep me from snagging gear all day when it gets gnarly bouldery!

Its funny how true the hookset/lack of hookset is with spinners. I fish spinners almost exclusively here in Ontario and everyone that asks me about it I say the same thing, the fish does all the work. When you try to do a big hookset you are most likely just going to rip the spinner away.

PLEASE HELP: Since returning to Oregon, I have been fishing for 8-months now... I put in about 50-hours plunking at Mildrum Bar (on the Willamette) for Steelhead & only caught a 7" pike minnow & a 6" fin-clipped trout. Then, I put about 60-hours of bank fishing for Coho (on the Sandy & Clackamas) using spinners, twitching Jigs, and drifting 12 mil soft beads... Also, nothing to show for but two native jacks. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I have never worked so hard in my life to try and put food on the table. You will see me mainly fishing the mouth of the Clackamas, Bowling Alley hole, McGiver Park, and on the Sandy at the Big Bend hole.
