I'm the addict of our family sandwich.. my parents never drank or anything.. so I must have put them through unimaginable pain.. they just didn't even think addiction was an option for me.. my son is 13.. I'm pretty sure I talk to him every day about drug use and mental health.. it's probably way too much for him.. but him getting addicted is one of my biggest fears next to him dying. and since his father and I are both addicts I NEED him to understand he might be predisposed to addiction.. oh my god I'm freaking out just thinking about it!! I'm tempted to go wake him up to talk to him again. But it's the middle of the night.. I shall resist! Lol

Heartbreaking to listen to when we are in the thick of it with our son. Thank you Scott for sharing. Our son turned 18 (is a senior in High School, and is currently failing and may not graduate - was a 3.6 student prior) and moved out before we could get him help, because his therapist said "he doesn't have a problem - it's just marijuana, i've seen so much worse." He minimized the situation and therefore gave our son "a pass" to continue on this risky path. He is nearly out of money, calls weekly for help/$ and we are not giving him any. At this point, if he won't admit he has a problem (definitely admits to doing Marijuana/THC - but says it's not a big deal), what do we do??....the tough love thing is hard and that's been the advice we've been given. At this point, do we need to wait until he can admit it and seek help?

What do you do when you just don’t know where to get help? Or how to help? I know there’s a big problem, I’m setting boundaries and have asked my son to move out but things are getting worse not better. But I can’t seem to figure out how to help him.

@@PutTheShovelDown do you have a video that would be helpful to explain addiction to my 16 year old son? Also, how do you help someone who doesn’t want to even hear that they need help even though their life is a disaster?

What made me get sober from heroine was an overdose I experienced where my mom found me min responsive and nearly dead. It took two doses of narcan to get me back. I seem that causes so much trauma in my mom. Especially finding me the way she did. I am 3 days in on sublocade. It was a rough start but I'm feeling lots better..

I'm really glad to hear that the Sublocade is finally helping! 😀

My son has not admitted he’s had a problem or willing to get any help. But I know how awful it is to go on vacation w him. Until he’s sober he is not welcome on any trips. Even to go out of town for his cousin’s funeral who died have a heroine overdose he made it miserable. From that point on I decided I would not go out of my way to include him any family events.

Going back to the pyramid with 5 layers...with patience standing on distress tolerance standing on honesty standing on humility standing on openmindedness. Big exhalation. Feels good seeing the absolute need for the grace to take time and do the work and recognize the need for rest and balance as part of the deal. Wow. Thank you.
