Here is a great little Revit tutorial on how to embed detail component items within your profile families in Autodesk Revit. For example, if you had a metal coping profile that was a wall sweep and you wanted to see 2x6 blocking when you cut a section (but don' need to model it) then this is a great solution for you!

This is a great tip which I use all the time however I always found myself adding a duplicate coping detail components in my wall sections since I couldn't tag the sweep with multi-category tags

Well, that is definately better than using a wall sweep. At least it fit better in the corners from what I can tell.

Great video Jeff, I recollected this video and recently tried to use this. I used a filled region in the profile family (since they are categorized under Detail Items in the project browser). Fill regions (and lines) in the nested Detail Item .rfa do work, but NOT a fill region in the Profile .rfa (what's the point of filled regions being available in the profile family? got me). When I rewatched this video, however, it clicked. Made a filled region to test and voila. Off to make some detail items. Thanks again.

Thanks Jeff, love the weekly podcast. So, I have used this technique for quite some time, but I recently came across an issue with new releases of Revit where the embeded detail component will appear backwards and out of alignment when section is cut. It sometimes depends on which direction the wall is created I believe. I do not recall this being an issue in releases prior to 2020. Have you noticed this before, and do you have a workaround? Great video btw.

When changing the wall's orientation, the detail component in the sweep does not update. Any way to fix that?
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid 3 жыл бұрын
As in mirroring the wall? Unfortunately, that seems to be a bug in Revit... So you'll need to have the profile/component in both orientations... But, maybe someone out there has figured out how to make it work??

I just wish the detail components could be “shared” components. They won’t show up if they are.

Annoyingly, the detail components will not show up in section if you add the sweep to a wall instead of building it into the wall family.

Hi Revit Kid, Love your videos! Thanks for the great content. Question for you and anyone else with insight. I've implemented your strategy of adding a detail item to a sweep profile. My profile is a sill plate and rim joist combined (an 'L'). I've added a detail item for the linework to show up in section views. For context I've created 4 walls all 90D from each other (a square) and added the sweep profile to the top of them. When running a section through my walls (left to right) my detail item on the left wall won't stay connected to the profile, the detail item on the right side is fine. Okay, Seems like an orientation problem... (that's what I thought) but now when I run a section top to bottom the detail item is fine on both walls/stays connected to the profile... Any Idea why 1 of my 3 walls (in section) refuses to display the detail item correctly? I'm pulling my hair out! A search on a revit forum has suggested a similar issue for another user that may be a problem going back all the way to 2009... If there is an easy fix to this I would LOVE to know. See the link for the 2 page forum conversation. forums.augi.com/showthread.php?107053-Embedded-Details-Flipping-within-Curtain-Wall-Mullion-Profiles/page1 Many Thanks!

Strange, my guess is to either make a detail component for each side (because Revit isn't mirroring/rotating it right) and convert it from Autocad to native revit (as in REDRAW IT using all revit tools). It's hard for me to troubleshoot that without the family/file itself.
