Ha! I have the same pattern and bought a fabric for it today. Also decided to get lining even though pattern doesn’t have lining. Lucky me found your video! Thanks ❤❤

Thanks for the video. I will do this to my blazer. One thing my sewing teacher showed me was to add a pleat at mid- back when cut out back pattern on fold to give some ease in lining. Great job! I'm in USA. I'll subscribe and keep watching. I've been sewing for almost 60 yrs and still have new techniques to learn. God bless you!

Thank you for a very clear and helpful video. I am in the process of making a jacket and you have certainly helped me tremendously with how to go about lining it. I feel much happier about tackling the job now. Thank you....Grace

I made a coat years ago (probably about 40 years ago!!), which was a Vogue pattern. Loved it and wore it loads. Its on my 'to do' list to make another one - just not sure when yet. As it is only been in the last 12 months since I came back to sewing and I seem to have a pile of things to make for my granddaughters as well as other things I want to make for Autumn/Winter, not sure when I will find time to fit in making a coat and I don't feel confident enough yet.

Hi Sharon, we do have these to do list don't we☺I bet it is such fun sewing for your granddaughters. I am sure you could make a coat again, maybe just do a little each week then pack it away so no pressure on yourself to finish it quickly🙂. Have a lovely week.

I’ve just come across your video. I made myself a jacket a couple of years ago and, like you, prefer lined jackets. I made a lining for my jacket in much the same way as you have shown here. Funnily, my jacket was purple and I added purple lining too 🤣.

Lovely coat and nicely modelled if I may say so. I removed the lining from my wool coat but would like to replace it, at least on the front side to cover the pockets, with some breathable fabric, maybe more boiled wool? Can I take some measurements from the coat itself and sew the lining into the seams? You mentioned leaving a little extra fabric and adjusting as you go but how much to leave for some stretch I’m not sure. Perhaps I would have to unpick the bottom seam though I would rather not. I’m not much of a sewer but hope it’s not too difficult.
@Dianne-ut5vr
@Dianne-ut5vr Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you. yes you could take measurements from the coat. Allow a couple of cm all around to allow for error when you cut it out, pin it to the coat first of all and if you are only doing part of the coat maybe you could just sew it in with handstitches on the inside floding the raw edge in as you go. ☺

Hi Diane, I made the Seamwork Jill coat in a beautiful pink wool, the coat pattern is unlined. It is a little big and I was going to take it apart and take some bulk out of it. Would it be stupid if I attached lining to each piece and then made it up - essentially like a facing? Might sound stupid but thought I would ask?
@Dianne-ut5vr
@Dianne-ut5vr Жыл бұрын
Hi Jill, no that doesn't sound stupid. The thing is you would syill have visible seams all in the inside so this would only really work if you are overlocking all the seams. There is also the possiblity that if you have one piece a little tight or twisted it wouldn't be so easy to remedy as if you just make the lining all seperate and then attatch it. I hope that helps. good luck with it. ☺

Hiya, quick question as I'm still learning sewing terminology, what do you mean when you say you're going to "tack" it? Is that just the type of hand stich you're doing? Thank you!
@Dianne-ut5vr
@Dianne-ut5vr Жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes just means I am going to sew it in by hand using large, loose stitches 'tacking' these can be removed after you are happy with how it is sitting then sew in more securely using a smaller stitch or your sewing machine.☺

My coat is lined but still too cold, do I need to take the original lining out? Or can I put new lining on top of it? I'm thinking of adding some fleece
@Dianne-ut5vr
@Dianne-ut5vr 3 ай бұрын
If it is roomy enough you can add over the top of it. I would make your fleece toil then try it on with the coat, before stitching to the coat though as it will alter the fit. ☺

@Dianne-ut5vr
@Dianne-ut5vr Жыл бұрын
@@lorrainejohnson4094 That is the same as the one i made, I have made it twice and it works using the method in the video. You don't need to cut as far into the lapels because you have the fabric facing, just try making it a little bigger then pin it to your coat while it is inside out. Then turn it the right way and check it is not pulling anywhere before stitching. I find it is best to turn up and handstitch around the bottom.

Hi Dianne, I remember you making that coat and I said at the time I wanted to make a coat as I had never made one and you encouraged me to make it..well it's still unmade🥴...I'm not going to say I will make it but you never know😊...I loved that coat when you made it and your own additions made it look better have you warn it much? Yes I would be interested in seeing the coats you have made. Would the method you used for the dog collars be similar method for making a belt for trousers? I have jeans that need a belt and thought if I took the fitting off the old belt I could add back on to the new one..what do you think.Thanks Susan 🌼🌸🌻

Hi Susan, well when you do decide to make your coat😁just ask if you are stuck on anything I would be happy to help. You will make it one day I am sure. I have worn the coat a fair bit yes and i will be wearing it again this year. As for the dog collars yes you can make your new belt in exactly the same way just use the existing fittings, have fun.☺xx

@HeidiMarieKirkengMeling-zf3ju

I have the same question. Love the coat I bought, but it is unlined and the back of the fabric creates friction with what I’m wearing, making the coat bunch up when I move… a lining would make it so much better.
@Dianne-ut5vr
@Dianne-ut5vr 10 ай бұрын
Hi, you could lay it out and trace around the coat, doing it in sections. sew togther loosing then add to the inside, try on and check then make adjustments. Hope that helps. 🙂
