Hey everyone! I added this sliding deadman to my split top roubo workbench to help support long boards when woodworking, especially when using hand tools. This was a quick easy project and and a great addition to the workbench. I hope you like the video. If you do, give a thumbs up and consider subscribing.
Check out my website Twistedwoodshop.com . It's a work in progress but there is a list of past projects and a couple sets of woodworking plans.

That Hitachi miter saw is hands down the best miter saw ever made! I've had the same one for 18 years without a single issue and still wouldn't trade it for anything. Nice video, keep up the good work!

Really nice job, Thanks for the narrative, you are easier to follow. Your mistakes or after-thoughts are very helpful to me. BTW, mistakes are just "design modifications"...

Awesome! The deadman is convenient. The whole bench set up just makes bench work(hand tool and electric) a little easier and faster. Good luck with your build

Thats a REAL bench man . Solid heavy and ready for ANYTHING . You dont need fancy hardwood . That bench is truly superb.One question I have always wondered though why not use two tenons ,why the 45 deg bottom track .?
@TwistedWorkshop77
@TwistedWorkshop77 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think if you have to make another groove on the bottom for the tenon to slide in, the groove would get clogged with saw dust, chips and shavings

Dave, I've got a bunch of 2x12 SYP in my shop acclimating as we speak. Your video series pushed me over the top to just pull the trigger on some SYP in lieu of a much more expensive hardwood. Looking forward to incorporating this feature into my bench as well soon!

G'day Dave, deadman/ handyhand offers real versatility for single operators at the bench. For longer, wider boards or narrow sheets held in the vise, how would a row of dog holes go, along the face of the bench, to position a holdfast to clamp the edge furthest from the vise? With the depth of support on the deadman and the top edge of the bench to brace the board against, the holdfast could help steady longer pieces. The thickness of the face and the depth below the bottom edge of the bench top would have to be considered. This is an adaptation of the Nicholson bench design feature which could easily be integrated.

I do like the Nicholson bench design. I really like how 3ed coast craftsman's bench is set up like a half and half

Great video, Dave! I would like to add a sliding deadman to my bench, but the idea of flipping it upside down is making me think twice about it. Do you think it would work if the top had a 45 degree channel (like the bottom) or do you think it would bind up when sliding? Thanks!
@TwistedWorkshop77
@TwistedWorkshop77 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think it would only be a problem if you ever tried to use a clamp to hold a work piece to the bench. The track would get in the way. But you could always clamp to the other side of the bench or make the track removable. It was not fun flipping the bench over. I had to keep editing out the shots of me looking like I was going to pop a blood vessel when we flipped it over. You can still see a little

Thanks! The finished part is 7 1/4 in wide by 1 3/8 thick but should match the thickness of your bottom stretcher. The tenon is 1 in long and is half the thickness of the deadman. I hope that helps
