A quick video on what you will need to add a thimble to a cable eye.
Most pre-made cables/wire ropes do not have the optional thimble in the eye or loop of the cable. The thimble will offer maximum protection against individual strands of steel breaking or getting damaged. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!

Hi Jay! Thanks for watching and commenting too! I know what you mean on trying to find something without the proper terminology, especially online as it's not as forgiving in some search engines. These thimbles are real cable savers!

@@pmtips4482 where can I get these thimbles? I have 1/4" cable and the big box doesn't sell that size thimble, only 3/16 and smaller and cheaply made

@@desperado77760 Scott, check out Westech Rigging Supply. They are in Oregon, but ship quickly. I just checked and they have the 1/4 inch thimbles, heavy duty also, for only . 50 cents. I use them for all my cable and accessories needs. Good luck to you!

My question is the $64 dollar one. Which part of the cable is the saddle on❓

Hi Miguel and thanks for watching and commenting! The thimble goes in the eye or loop. This choker cable was purchased premade and the eye had no thimble. I added it for protection as the eye would be the first place to start breaking strands.

What was that little doohickey you used to keep the thimble snug up against the top of the loop while you worked? Where can I find one? Thanks.

Hi Sammy and thanks for commenting! The little doohickey here is a small plastic ratcheting cord manager device sold in different sizes at the big box stores. It is an alternative to the rubber coated wire ties/wrappers you see sold in the same stores. Have a good one!

I'd use a fist grip, rather then a cable clamp for this type of application. That way BOTH side of your eye are gripped with a saddle, rather then one side having a U bolt that can (and will) kink the line.

Could you tell me what size fist grip to use? I'm using it on a 3/8" x 80 ft. Is there also a size for the thimble?
@ronaldellis5793
@ronaldellis5793 2 жыл бұрын
@@kennethphillippe9239 if you're using 3/8" wire rope, then a 3/8" fist grip is what you'll need. You'll also need a 3/8" thimble. The hardware is typically sized to the wire. So the size of wire is identical to the size of hardware.

I think you out the clamp on backwards. Never saddle a dead horse. Meaning you put the saddle on the dead end...non load side of the cable.

What is the purpose of the thimble?
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 Жыл бұрын
The thimble is made of steel and protects the small individual wire threads on a wire rope (steel cable). It is practically impossible to damage a wire rope with a thimble used at the stress/contact saddle area. Thanks for watching!
