Adding more or Relocating Recessed / High Hat Lights

Sometimes you just want to relocate or in our case add more. The existing can frames are very different than the remodeling ones. A existing one is held with four brackets that are nailed into the ceiling joist to where remodeling ones rely on the sheetrock to hold them up.

Will this process work if i'm trying to add lighting above my island in the kitchen but instead a lamp not recess lighting?

I am using the same lighting hw to install 8 recessed lights in my bedroom. Even though i have access to the attic, i purchased the remodel lights. I also purchased the 6" hole saw and a stud finder. $80 in tools to do 8 lights, so not bad. The fixtures are sealed which is nice that it will not give me drafts in the winter from the attis. I have a new home, but the electrician wanter $250 for each light here in NJ USA. dimmable LED retrofit kit from costco completes the install.

Great vids! Do you have any advice for patching a textured ceiling? I moved a recessed light and am not sure how to properly patch the old hole so that it blends in with the existing texture. Thanks!

Not really. Just more wires to deal with in a small spot. No biggie

I use a recessed light hole saw which is actually 6-3/8" in diameter not a regular 6" hole saw...6" is not large enough for any can lights i've installed...

+David Mack 100% correct. I've been referring to as a 6" way too long. But yes it's 6 3/8"
