Check power consistency at the plug supply end ensuring there is a continuous consistent voltage supply. If good then rejoin the plug and back probe on the motor side and check again.

Matt you need a workshop manual. Those regulators need to be calibrated. One touch might work when you do the key lock/unlock trick in the door. Both of these are in the WS Manual. Contact me and I can answer any questions.

@@matt13ross yeah I’ll Have to look it up again but I believe you have to turn the key to lock position several times then to unlock to get the windows to work with the key. Also, again from memory, the windows need to be fully rolled down and back up several times to sync them up. Finally the regulator has a top stop and a bottom stop that has to be dialed in with a stop screw. Count your blessings that you didn’t buy a cabriolet. 😭

There are two switches, one up for the inside and one for the outside, I had a similar problem and actually was the soldering that was cracked overtime, I just heat them with a soldering iron and melt the solder and it worked perfectly.

It sounds like the relay is clicking on and off in time with the window starting and stopping. Could be something wrong with the module that controls the windows.

If you haven't checked out what Crucible Coachworks did with the front end of their 996 after you get it running you should check it out before the repaint which I vote white with a Martini livery in vinyl or the really pretty metallic blue they do now. Then, when you redo the seats, do tartan fabric centers and door panels. How can you not call it Tool Time Tuesday's?? Been looking forward to the upload Matt.

Plug the passenger side window motor into the drivers door harness and see it the problem persists while being wired to the drivers door. If it follows over to the driver side, it must be the motor.

Bad batteries in cars will definitely mess with electronics. Replaced the wife's batteries in her jeep, made a massive difference. Even if it isn't messing with the window, it can mess with how it runs. At least in my experience any manual I ever drove, ran like poo on a bad battery. I am curious if that thing does too.

I agree the bad battery could b the root cause of multiple electrical issues. Try the window with the car running. Then, Like others have said, swap the window switches and then try with car running

Hey Matt, the white "tape" is for "home installation" not for driving with it. It can loosen due to the vibrations and become leaky, it is better to use a liquid agent. nice project btw. greetings from germany

You can put chemicals in them such as brake cleaner and then pressurize them which will allow you to spray the chemical continuously with a single button press.

Eh Mat I don't know for the 996 but my Golf R, when i unplug the battery and plug it back the one touch window button dont work. I need to run the car like 1-2 miles and then every thing work good. I know make the seting with an OBD2 for the car can work to. So i do mine with VCDS. Your window regulator seem to work fine so the problem are probably in the coding

It's like put the window up and hold the button for a certain amount of second, then put it down hold button etc. etc. Im pretty sure you can found something stupid like that ! Because if we go logically the button work, the regulator work it's brand new so it's need to be something like that ! Don't give up friend, don't give up ! We are still with you on this car for sure !

That's just a Johnny Cash passenger side window but instead of One Piece at a Time the window moves One Inch at a Time. You should put a meter on it and see if the motor gets voltage and then loses it. Maybe it's a bad switch, ground, or relay.

Load regulator that’s gone soft, it’s a safety protection so that the window does not chop your head off, is my guess on window problem

@@matt13ross usually on its power module, switches control board. Think it works on amp loading, if your voltage is not regulated on its control, a low voltage will cause over amp and its safety will kick in.

Possibly the window switch has a loose internal connection. Swap the window switch left to right. Takes 2 min and costs nothing. If the problem changes side, easy fix. If not, at least you ruled that out.

@@matt13ross In that case if I was in your shoes I would dedicate more time to just this problem for now. Not as a side quest in between other mods. 1-Check for broken wires in the door jam. 2-Try swapping the motor left to right (sucks I know). 3-Check for loose connection at the fuse box. 4-Check body control module with "durametric" scan tool. You can also do what's affectionately called the "wiggle test". Wiggle all the wiring you can reach while activating the window. If there's a short somewhere you wiggled, the problem will get better or worse.

You should try a different switch for the window. My VW touran window acts the same and I know for a fact the window switch is failing through VCDS.

For the window, I can't remember if you've checked relays if it has any. But it sounds like it could be a failing relay. If the relay can't hold the switch constantly, it could cause an intermittent on/off/on/off

@@matt13ross yes so initially you have the 2 buttons on center console, you hold both the buttons down until both windows roll completely down and continue to hold them down for 10 seconds, then pull both buttons up until both windows are rolled up and continue to hold the buttons up for 10 seconds, that should synchronize the windows and do the one touch feature

Does the Body Control Module have any part in controlling how the windows operate? I know that thing can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins if it gets damaged, so maybe window issues are a part of that

Hey Matt, does that thing have a "comfort relay" like the E36s? The PS window on my 318is would work, doing that little bit at a time nonsense both up and down. Replacing the comfort relay fixed it. Jusr spitballing a suggestion. Keep up the great content, buddy! Ken

Regarding the window: It's the switch issue, I have the same problem with a French car that uses mutiplex signals to lower and raise the window, when the resistance in ohms of the switch is not the right value the window module will not know if to lower or raise the window. In my case the power window switch uses the same contacts as a tv remote and those are known to fail after some times of use! The solution is to change the power window switch assembly!

Your window issue is looking like a sketchy 12V connection on the supply feed to the motor, maybe as the cables moves it breaks connection & loses power momentarily? Assuming the connectors are the same could you test the motor from the right window to see if it drives that one in "steps" too? (Assuming your other one works fine ).

Can you work the harness connector out of the door assembly? If so an easier way would be sticking a multimeter on the drive pins while pressing the window button... If you have a constant 12V then ignore me (however you may have to move the cable to highlight a bad connection etc) .

@@matt13ross yea you might want to wait and see if the new zr2 is really any good lots of times a new model has lots of issues I love my 21 zr2 when they are lifted and restyled, they look so much better than stock. I think the Silverado is a flop overall because people were expecting it to compete with the trx and the raptor, but it just didn't have the power and there was nothing outstanding about it . I am not thrilled with the body of the new Colorado zr2 its like a Minie Silverado and its just to square for my liking, but it does have a couple new fetchers I would like to have like the steering wheel and the tail gate storage. but all the soft finishes don't appeal to me because they will wear out quicker.

Bad switch or relay or fuse maybe? Wiring in cars is the worst. A bad ground wire could mess the whole vehicle up. I would recommend checking any ground wires and make sure the contacts are good.

Change your battery! These cars are super sensitive to bad batteries. I have had a handful of Porsches. I had a Boxster with tons a electronic gremlins and I changed the battery and it all went away. I too trickle charged an old battery but thats not enough, moreso if you live in cold weather. Not sure it will fix your window issue but it did fix mine.

Could your window just be a bad ground. Perhaps you're hitting the switch and it runs out long enough to short a fault. I'm a chiropractor, no mechanic, but perhaps run a short reliable ground to the switch and see

@@matt13ross check the connector between the switch and door. . . I had an issue on an old Mercedes-Benz, turned out to be a connector under the floor door trim and carpet Maybe there's another connector between 🤷‍♂️. Also, check your ground from the motor. Are there any relays in the system?

The most expensive, frustrating way of diagnosing problems is throwing new parts at it. Look at the channel diagnosedan and take that approach with the window. Save yourself some time and frustration.
