Fantastic dialogue and ideas! So much gold within this discussion/ I've sent this to Troy, Jodi and Yee-Min Lee just out of principle. I'd want to know what my client base had to say in a public forum about my organization -right? This makes me think of an iconic Texas saying "If all you've ever done is all you ever do then all you'll ever get is all you'll ever get". I know this could seem harsh and unfair but a new IT initiative or IT director is warranted. Charlie is spot on but in my opinion that you can't make a C class cultures, behaviors and paradigms A class with all the information and resources in the World. But it's very feasible to make B class or better cultures better or fantastic. USPSA needs to decide if they want to just glide and decay slowly over time or find higher altitudes with higher standards. Right now they truly are " holder of the rules " mostly and a classifier clearing house.

I really like the module RO class idea. I definitely think it should be on line.

I started competing this spring (2023), my first match was about three weeks before this was recorded, and I was thrown into a squad with Charlie for my first USPSA experience. 🤣 Talk about humbling. I really like the idea of an RO pipeline to provide training and growth, and I support the membership fee penalty that was mentioned. I've got about a dozen local matches under my belt now, and even at this point I still don't know how to run a tablet because the pace of the match doesn't really lend itself to an "I can do it if you can walk me through it a couple times" mentality. I also don't think clubs leverage the fee structure to incentivize help setting up. Sorry, I'm not waking up at 5am on a Saturday to save $5. Make it $20 and I think you'd be surprised how much setup help you have all of the sudden ($40 match fee if you don't want to help set up). Just a couple thoughts from a relative newbie.

Awesome Podcast as usual David. Does the BDE spill over to this channel or not? It seems so!!

If I make up a stage the first thing that goes is the walls/barricades. Next--distance. No shots over 15 yards. No shoots must present 50% or more of the shoot target. Swingers must be able to be engaged easily by a C class shooter.

you would think that this major organization would have something for the area and section coordinators. There is absolutely no support at all from the national organization. What is amazing is the $$ that are in the coffers for the area and section seem to disappear when the new people assume the position.

re: the question about what uspsa offers successful outlaw clubs... USPSA offers a classification system. Shooting matches is fun, but measuring one's long term improvement and being able to compare that to other shooters is compelling to competitively minded, goal-oriented people. Obviously the system is imperfect, but it is what makes me (and I would imagine many others) think of USPSA as our main sport despite dabbling in all sorts of different shooting disciplines.

Blanket statements like.....you get a c class effort out of c class shooter......is simply untrue. There are just simply too many exceptions for this statement to be remotely true.

Yes, there are exceptions to "C Class Effort is only expected out of C Class shooters". But through my 15 year tenure in the Practical Shooting Sports attending matches all across the nation, this correlation holds true more often than it does not.

@@BigPandaPerformance we will have to agree to disagree. My tenure exceeds yours and my observations do not draw the same conclusions. What I think we can agree on is that tenure (read...years of match experience) is what makes for good course design......not class. Some shooters may never get beyond c class, for any number of reasons, but it's not their classification that will inform their course design, it is rather their experence.

@@fotofavoloso267 You can say and think all you want. After observing numerous Level 2 and up matches and all of the station to station shooting you see in the stage design in those matches this is spot on. It may even be generous in that there are probably A, M and GM shooters that cannot design a stage to save their ass. By the way Tenure has zero bearing on if you can design a stage or not.

@@jamesdomenico2953 I guess the question is: What constitutes good stage design?

Charlie you're just the greatest too bad you don't know how to explain things Yes are people with less years than you less experienced than you Yes they are but you're just another USPSA guy making friends? You don't get people to become better at something by putting them down when they're just starting out It's a shame you don't know that

I took an RO class this year. First to help out and make things work and then to be a better competitor. The latest shake up this week doesn’t help anything IMO.
