Aside from professional makeup artists, there's one group of people we trust implicitly with makeup advice: drag queens. Whether it's an old-school contouring technique or fresh product recommendations, they know what they're talking about when putting together a lewk.
If you've had the privilege of seeing a drag show in person - or you've just watched every episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race" and "Drag Race All Stars" - you know that drag queens are true wizards on and off stage. In front of the lights, they masterfully captivate an audience with their dancing and lip-syncing. Backstage, they paint their faces with a trunk full of products, meticulously concealing, contouring, and highlighting. They can transform into an entirely new character where not even their lip shape or eyebrow location is the same.
It takes a lot of hard work, coordination, hairspray, and glitter to be a drag artist, but they know where to splurge - as Kandy Muse previously told POPSUGAR, "Looking good for drag is very expensive" - and where to save, like with drugstore makeup.
We asked Symone, season 13 winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race," and Gigi Goode, the season 12 runner-up, to compile a drag-queen-approved shopping list for creating a full beat. The one requirement: it must only include affordable products you can find at the drugstore. To no one's surprise, they delivered. Keep reading to shop their picks.
