We've been on over a dozen cruises, and Holland America has become our favorite. The food is always excellent, and the staff are the friendliest and most professional of any cruise line we have embarked on. I like that they focus on the quality of the shore excursions, and less on go kart tracks on board. They are head and shoulders above any other line for Alaska cruises.

We just did our first HAL cruise to Alaska~and loved it! Y"all nailed the vibe of the ship very well. The food, the service, the "classy but fun" vibe are apparent. BB Kings is the best! OTOH, yeah~it skews a bit older. But people are there to relax and enjoy themselves; if you cruise Holland and say you were bored...either you didn't explore the ship or you likely need to stay with the Party Hearty cruise lines.

We went on our first cruise last June, on board the MS Volendam, Boston to Montreal. It was an incredible experience for us. Having an excuse to dress up isn't something we've had for almost 20 years. We had at least a few of hubby's Canadian military functions, but between being posted while I stayed back and retirement, and this cruise I had the Orange Party, two Gala Nights, and our 39th anniversary. I loved being seated, also something I haven't seen done in ages.

Glad to see such. A nice time had on Holland. If you booked through the cruise line They will wait but only w/in a reasonable amount of time. Often cruised with HAL: from Rotterdam around Britain (awesome! Westerdam!), from Amsterdam to the fjords, twice! (also on Koningsdam) A while ago to St. Petersburg (amazing - so sad that Russia is being destroyed from within - former Rotterdam), from Barcelona via Med ports to Rome (Top notch!!! Nieuw Statendam). Most with a balcony, one window, Westerdam with connecting suites. Different times of year, different ships, different price ranges and from 1 to 2 weeks. We loved it all! The 'ice sculptures' of old are no more - in part not sustainable. New Dutch Coffee shop is wonderful. Loved it all! Toured with family, multi-generational. That is most fun! Enjoy!!

Always take an excursion in Belize City. We were assaulted there on our last trip there in January 2024. You were smart to skip the MDR on the night of embarkation as it is always way too disorganized. We head to the buffet that night. The reat of the MDR dinners are great.
