I remember back in 1990 after the story broke of Ports AFL bid.....the next Magpies game was at Alberton Oval and somehow the Football Budget 'forgot' to include the Port game (I can't remember their opponents). As a kid who worked as a Footy Budget seller I was unlucky to be assigned to Alberton that day. Boy did we (and we were all kids) cop it from Port supporters as if we were responsible for the oversight in a classic case of shooting the messenger.

The game you refer to was Port vs West. Port won by over 100pts. Scott Hodges kicked 14 goals (including 8 in one quarter). I wasn't aware of the Footy Budget error. Sorry to hear that some of our supporters gave you a hard time. But it was a very emotional day(did you see the flak KG copped). I was there and it was always going to be a 'hornets nest' because of what happened the previous week. Many are critical of what Port did however it did cause the creation of the Crows, like it or not!
