Sydney, known as Australia's tech hub covers the majority of Australian IT job sector. However, with great demand comes competition and a higher cost of living.
On the other side, Adelaide, the charming coastal city, offers a more relaxed pace of life and a growing tech scene.
While it may not match Sydney in sheer volume, it's gaining traction as a tech destination with its affordable living costs and growing opportunities.
Lets talk numbers
1. we made a LinkedIn search to compare jobs for DevOps.
where in Sydney we have 903 job opening, in Adelaide the number is quite low as 163(number are based on the date we checked)
But this should not disappoint people in Adelaide as we only have 1300 DevOps resource in Adelaide whereas around 10000 in Sydney(could be more as it looks like LinkedIn does not show exact number if its more than 10000).
So the competition in Adelaide is way less than Sydney. and there are only 7.97 applicants per job in Adelaide to 11.07 in Sydney.
Now, let's look into the latest news and trends shaping these markets.
if you see this LinkedIn blog, it will tell you the list of most demand IT jobs in Australia over the last year.
1. SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS

3. Business Analyst
4. ICT Architect
5. Data Analyst

But I have found another Blog by Click IT Recruitment Consultancy, they have explained all the in demand jobs over the years with their salary structure as well.
Salary remain the same between Adelaide and Sydney and may also varies based on demand and the amount of knowledge you have.
So here is the list:
If you see here in this URL number 1 in the list is Software Developer, same as it was for LinkedIn
Among Software Developers, Java Developers earns the most followed by Full Stack and C++ Developers.
For ICT Security Consultant Salary varies based on experience you have, you can have a look at other list of occupations as well, I have attached the link for them in the description.

I checked on public forums with people on what difference they find between Adelaide and Sydney job market and got the below response:

You didnt mention other important things. 1. If someone is an international student and thinking of getting a job, then tough luck. It is almost impossible to find a tech job in Adelaide as a fresher. 2. Most IT jobs in Adelaide require security clearance which only citizens can get. 3. Networking helps to find a job in Adelaide not skills. 4. Most tech jobs in Adelaide are low balls, they range around 60 to 70K near to minimum wage. 5. Only come to Adelaide for a tech job if you are experienced, or else don't.
