The candied fruit you had are called tanghulu which can be candied versions of different fruits from strawberries to mandarin oranges and kiwifruit! It originated from northern China! The story goes that during the Southern Song Dynasty, the emperor Song Guangzong had a concubine named Huang Guifei. When Huang was sick, she refused to eat or drink all day long, and she seemed about to die at any moment. Later, a doctor came to the palace and treated Huang. He ordered cooks to prepare the hawthorn with rock sugar, advising Huang to take five to ten of them before each meal. Surprisingly, after a few days, Huang gradually recovered. Everyone thought this method was quite novel, so the prescription was passed down. Then eventually people began to string the fruit together and sell it on the street, thus the snack was born! Ramen is also of Chinese origin! The word ramen is a Japanese borrowing of the Mandarin word lāmiàn/拉麵 or "pulled noodles". The origins of ramen can be traced back to Yokohama Chinatown in the early 20th century. While the word came from Mandarin, the dish actually evolved from southern Chinese noodle dishes, reflecting the demographics of Chinese settlers in Yokohama. Ramen gained popularity in Japan, especially during food shortages following World War II. In 1958, instant noodles were invented by Momofuku Ando, further popularizing the dish.

Here's the history behind Tokyo's Imperial Palace: The current Imperial Palace is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls. Edo Castle used to be the seat of the Tokugawa shogun who ruled Japan from 1603 until 1867. In 1868, the shogunate was overthrown, and the country's capital and imperial residence were moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. After the capitulation of the shogunate, the inhabitants, including the Shōgun Tokugawa Yoshinobu, were required to vacate the premises of the Edo Castle for the imperial family. In 1888, construction of a new Imperial Palace was completed. The palace was once destroyed during World War II but was rebuilt in the same style afterwards. 7-Eleven is so much better in Asia! Though the thing is, they were actually born in Texas! 7-Eleven was founded in Dallas in 1927 as a storefront for an icehouse! The company's first outlets were called "Tote'm Stores" between 1928 and 1946 because customers toted away their purchases, and these stores featured totem poles. The name was changed to 7-Eleven in 1946 to reflect their new operating hours of 7 am to 11 pm, seven days a week. The n in their logo is lowercased because the first wife of John P. Thompson Sr., the company's president during the 1960s, thought the all-capitals version seemed a little aggressive and wanted it to be more graceful.
