HayesInTheHole I am a pro audio engineer, been working in the industry for over 18 years. It is protocol in an event like this that the talent doesn't break character an moves forward. It is very unprofessional to stop and break character until the Front of Housr engineer talks to them in their ears telling them what is wrong and that there is a solution. She knows she's on image and most likely being broadcast world wide, she cannot just stop... Like Mariah did. She wasn't aware of it going out because she wasn't wearing her in-ear monitors, she pulled them so she could hear the crowd sing when she stepped forward. You can see her pull them at 1:33 min mark as she steps forward.

It wasn’t the sound system necessarily it was most likely the console that failed which is why she still heard herself.
