www.billboard.c... Before she was famous, Adele performs "Chasing Pavements" @ Billboard

I was there! This was recorded in the break room at the Billboard offices in New York. I worked two floors below, and I’d heard this song on the radio and liked it, so when I found out that Adele would be performing, I decided to go upstairs and watch. There were no more than 15 or 20 people in the room, since she was still mostly unknown in this country. She’d just arrived in the U.S., but that night she would make her American TV debut on the David Letterman show. I was so lucky to see her in person literally hours before her career would take off here. Sitting just a few feet away and hearing that voice, I was blown away.

Her voice is an instrument. It’s so beautiful. She doesn’t even need the guitar.
@oppothumbs12 жыл бұрын
She needs a band and someone to critique her lyrics and to find better melodies. A soaring voice is not enough, imo. Her voice is so expressive and powerful but I hate it . her songs mean nothing to me. She never approaches Neil Young, Dylan, Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, Ray Davies, Jeff Tweedy, Van Morrison, Sam Cooke, Paul Westerberg and she has a better voice then some of them by a mile but she's doesn't have cool, soul, substance or depth. She's just better than most of the lousy singer songwriters of today; I will give here that. Clap.

Chu simon I think she sounds like Amy Winehouse on this. Of course she is Adele and has her own sound but I’m reminded of Amy Winehouse. God rest her soul

She was a bloody killer since the very beginning. What else could that pain in her voice do with that conviction????

everyone is talking about her talent on singing. But composing this song? she expressed it in a sad and poetic way where she is insecure of herself. And while she sings it live in this video, the emotion of her voice and face says it. damn who hurt this girl before.

I love the accidental switch to “sidewalks” instead of “pavements” at the end. It makes me wonder, could we have had a completely different version of the song with that word switch throughout?
@pbreezy22412 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it was to appeal to the American audience
@LoveAroseSilver2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's for an American audience. Amusing how after all these years some still think it accidental. Adele replaces pavements with sidewalks every time she sings this live for an American audience.
@Patricia-s2hАй бұрын
@@LoveAroseSilverso does she sing sidewalks on her shows in Vegas? I saw another comment that said that the radiochannel made her change the lyrics because some people understood,,chasing gay men“ and that it would have been inappropriate. I thought this was hilarious 😂
@LoveAroseSilverАй бұрын
@@Patricia-s2h Yes. An Urban Dictionary user (presumably someone who hates Adele) listed "chasing pavements" as British slang for "chasing gay men".
