Because acoustics change from venue to venue, there will always be differences in performances but with studios maximizing acoustics, of course there will be/are differences. Adele is just one of those gifted vocalists who sound good either way.

It's interesting in that last refrain of "Let it burn" on the album, she goes up three notes, but in live and latter performances, she changes it to "Burn, ern. ohhh" dropping down. I wonder if that's because after the vocal cord surgery, she can't hit that note anymore.

My guess is that she probably could still hit the note if she wanted to, but opted to drop down because she was either touring or performing on shows constantly, so having to replicate the original three notes every other night would have strained her voice big time. Whereas I'd imagine the alternative version is easier on her vocal cords. But who knows, you could be right! I hope not though because that would kinda suck for her.
