@@martinolusanya6370 it’s a sad story o. You don’t even have anyone to report to. You’re literally at the mercy of those who have connections. Someone hit my dad with their car and he was hospitalised but they drove away, just like that. I had to travel to Nigeria to track him through the car reg and mobile phone ( I paid through ) but when they were arrested, police officers from the State commissioner’s office came to the station to release them, I had to look for someone who knew the commissioner of police directly to step in, otherwise that was the end of the story. I was ready to sue them BUT when my dad died from the injuries sustained in the accident I was broken and returned to my base.

That is why education is the key. In Political Science, there is a Course titled: Civil-Military Relations which teaches mutual understanding in the spirit of equality, fairness, justice and cooperation between the Military and the Civilians. Nigerian soldiers need to be taught this Course. It will help them. As for the General, I join voices to say he should be dismissed from the Army. He is not worth the rank he carries about on his chest.

Our mindset is an important part of what needs to change. In late 2020, when I just became the Dean of my Faculty and was staying at my brother in law’s place in Kubwa while my house was getting built, I was coming home in my official car when the blare of sirens was insistent behind me. I looked in the mirror and saw Army vehicles behind. I could not see what the problem was as it was a wide four-lane road with anyone in a hurry allowed to overtake the person in their front. I continued on my way. The siren continued so I moved aside a bit wondering what their problem was. Then the convoy passed me and one of the soldiers on the back of the pick up following the General’s car was lashing out at me with the his koboko. I was wondering what his problem was, so I asked him. His reply was I was supposed to get out of his way to allow his General pass. I was alone in the car and had no one to share my frustration with. So, I just shouted back at him that I am a citizen of this country and pay my tax, which is used to pay all of them in those vehicles and their General. Imagine the audacity. These guys have such a sense of entitlement. Their bullish ways is just a sign of inferiority complex. Why do you need to oppress others to feel good about yourself. I don’t have much faith in Legislature as they too use those same tactics as seen in the other HoR guy’s saga with the Bolt driver. It is like some Nigerians just wait to have some power and begin to oppress other Nigerians not in power. When our system gets built up by us all, it will work for everyone! Thank you, @adeolafayehun, for all you do to expose all these ills in our society. God help us all to do our bit and we will have a better country to call home.

How can senate or law makers make law that will stand against themselves since they do the same thing to the citizens. As a matter of fact we are in Banana Republic .

Thank God you said there are some among them who are humans. I have always been fortunate to meet the good ones among them so I will not stay in a place where they are being condemned. The Nigerian soldiers are more friendly than..........The present situation in the country is making everyone aggressive. Aggression with transferred aggression everywhere. END TIME so watch and pray.

This attitude of Nigerian Soldiers, the Police and other persons in High Authority is nothing new to Nigeria. This is too shameful to talk about. There will always be assault instead of protecting the innocent civilians. What a country!

I don’t think we as a nation realize the ripple effect the trauma from the daily brutality we subject our selves to? We see the impact on the mental health of our men, women and children everyday in pockets of violence that erupts in our homes, schools and public spaces. 😢

Once again, I do not regret leaving Nigeria and becoming a citizen of another country. Home is where I have rest of mind and my human rights are respected. I can't raise my kids in an insane society. If Nigeria is where you own heart is, I respect your opinion and your decision but some of us were done with that country a long time ago.

My sister, it's like it's been so long since you left Africa. The fact is that, this very incident is very normal to me as a regular road user in Nigeria, and it doesn't matter who's at fault, the result is still the same. If you hit them or they hit you,the end is that you are dead. And I truly understand why. If you go to the origin of African military, you will realize that they were created to help the Europeans and Americans keep they Blacks in order, they can kill any black person in Africa so far they person especially man is not or no longer useful to the Europeans. I have personally gone through that over and over again.
