I'm 65 and have enjoyed a happy life but at 17 I was in Southend Kursaal mesmerized by Rory when the gig was stopped - they'd had a call saying there was a bomb in the building. This being the 70s it was believable. Rory left the stage -people stamped their feet and shouted for more until Rory came back on, said 'oh fuck it' and carried on playing. I remember thinking, if this is it, what a way to go! Still the best musician I've ever seen, his picture gangs in my wall.

First heard him live in 1974 in the City Hall in our home town of Cork in Ireland. I was 14 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday. A great artist and a gentleman. Also Gerry, Rod and Lou were awesome sidemen. Still wonderful to know that people are still discovering Rory to this day. Gone but never forgotten…. RIP Rory.

From the "Live in Europe" album 1972, this is a great cover of William Harris's 1928 song. Multiple instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader Rory was one talented guitarist who unfortunately died at 47 after a liver transplant. He sold over 30 million albums. This is a stupendous version, rocking guitars, great slide guitar, piano supreme, and the drums reminded me of Gene Krupa. Such groovy entertainment, you cannot sit still listening to this masterpiece.I saw you grooving along Harri. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Miss Blondie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

That was outstanding, I usually dislike music like this; played over these chords as it’s almost always staid, repetitive and uninspiring. However, the inventiveness of these musicians floored me. There were countless snippets of musicality, that I have never heard played in this context before, i.e.over these chord sequences; and I have been listening to all types of music incessantly since I was seven years of age [55 years ago]. Sure there has been quite a few performances I’ve heard in this style thru the years that were as astonishingly passionate & inventive. Alas , performances like this are as rare as hen teeth. I love it when I’m reenergised, rejuvenated with a style that usually leaves me slightly cold as I’ve heard it all before. Thank You, Rory & band for electrifying my ears.

Yes, this was the Rory alltime favourite, mostly played as the first encore in his legendary live concerts in these days. Everybody loved him for that one and his energy and his attitude to remain modestly. „Did you ever! „ was the question everyone in the audience was looking forward to. @@missblondie2393 I think I've seen all of Harri's RG reactions, including your requests. And to let you in on a little secret, I also have come to appreciate Rory's music only recently? But worse still, I was born and raised in Ireland AND was big into music at the same time he was gigging? However for some reason I didn't think his music was to my taste back then as I was more into the more laid back sounds of Pink Floyd and Yes and also groups like The Clash so I didn't really check out his music properly. My bad, as I missed out on getting to see him live unfortunately although living in Ireland I would've had plenty of opportunities. Another band that were around at the same time which I had no interest in were Rush, yet just like Rory in recent years they have become another one of my favorites. I guess it's like that Joni Mitchell line in Big Yellow Taxi, that "you don't know what you've got till it's gone"? Anyways have a good evening, and watch out for that "Shin Kicker" reaction😊

I was blessed. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 East Tennessee State University (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) Rory Gallagher - ZZ Top 4 dollars It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, Billy Gibbons and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry

Nice to see another Rory reaction. There really was/is no one else like Rory - on another level altogether. I've seen most of the top bands from that era and no one came close to seeing Rory perform live. He was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist: electric/acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica, electric sitar, alto sax and also an outstanding songwriter with a catalogue that embraced blues, rock, folk, jazz and a bit of funk. His first band, Taste (1966-1970), was a ground-breaking trio which you might want to check out, I suggest from their first eponymous album: Blister on the Moon, Born on the Wrong Side of Time, Catfish and from their 2nd album On the Boards: What's Going On, Morning Sun, I'll Remember. Anyway, thanks for an excellent request Miss Blondie and a great reaction, Harri. Keep on...

Here I was wanting something soft and sensitive and you spring this on me, Miss Blondie. Seriously, it was a great song and great performance and a great choice. I do miss those days when there was so much great music on radio and TV, OGWT was certainly part of this in its heyday. It always makes me laugh. This performance was from 1976 but there were so many hard rock bands around at that time. Just what was punk for except as a marketing exercise for the less talented. It certainly didn't breathe new life into rock music. It's certainly good fun watching Harri's physical reaction to music. I'm glad that @marrybaillie8907 said which album it's on, I shall be listening to it.
