In support of the Enhanced Defence Cooperation Program with the Philippines, training is being conducted between the Australian Defence Force and the Armed Forces of the Philippines under the Joint Australian Training Team - Philippines (JATT-P) program.
The training team, drawn from the 3rd Combat Brigade, deployed to Philippines in April 2024. They are delivering bespoke tactical training with elements of the Philippines Army’s 5th Infantry Division. Training is being provided in fire support planning including live-fire of mortars, urban training, first aid, reconnaissance and surveillance and tactical communications.

I use to watch defence train they mostly waste ammunition. Australian defence should not be a career the jobs are so pointless and boring they should be training on the front line in Ukraine. Mortars are no good in open country when modern warfare is now urban. A mobile mortar team over a position is more valuable then artillery.

This is no waste of ammunition. A waste would be if there was no intent to hit a target or no intent to record data from said event - that would be a waste. If you get results or can learn then it is never a waste. You also mention Ukraine but seem to have no idea on modern warfare. Ask any Ukrainian (or Russian for that matter) and they will tell you Mortars are key to open terrain AND urban. Combine that with good Tanks, IFVs, infantry, drones (both ISR and loitering munitions), heavy artillery, air power, air defence and you get a much closer picture of modern warfare. They all have a part to play. The war we would face here in the Pacific will have its own flavour as it will be fought over vast distances and in littoral terrain. The more training our guys get with our neighbours the better for both them and us.

You have no clue mate. Mortars are still efrective, fighting in open terrain and trench warfares a large part of ukraine and finally, ADF has no reason to send soldiers to die in ukraine therefore they have decided to train the AFU to allow them to fight better

Yes but C.O.D. knowledge doesn't count in real life.
